Red error LED flashing 10 times

Last Updated: October 20, 2016

This indicates that a runtime error has occurred with the autorun.brs script. Script errors can be caused by a problem with the content or a bug in the autorun script. Follow these steps to troubleshoot the problem:

  1. Confirm that the Read-Only tab on the SD card is not in the locked position.
  2. If the player is running an older version of firmware, download and install the current production version from the Downloads page. You can determine the current firmware version by powering up the player without an SD card (or a different storage device) inserted: The version will be displayed on the screen.
  3. If you are using BrightAuthor:connected or BrightAuthor to publish presentations, download and install the current production version from the Downloads page.
  4. Verify that the SD/microSD card is formatted using FAT32 if you are using files smaller than 4GB. See this FAQ for more details.
  5. If you are using the older autoplay.bsp or autoplay.csv format, then an old autorun file or errors in the playlists can cause this kind of script error.

I have a XD232 that has just developed the 10x Error LED Fault, it has been running perfectly for over a year as our Demo unit that I take to clients offices and show the features.

We always keep the firmware upto date and the last change to v6.0.51 was two weeks ago.

I have followed the instructions above but every time I upload a Presentation that requires the BrightSign Network I get the 10x Error LED issue.

So at the moment I am limited to only local Presentations.

Any help would be appropriated with this issue as it has suddenly happened.

This happens with any presentaiton? Usually when you get 10 flashes, there's a line number reported where the crahs occurs. What line number are you failing on, and what version of the autorun.brs file do you currently have?

    Hi,

I am not sure where I find the line number reported which crashed; Where do I find this information?

After testing various presentations, it seems to be limited to one Presentation and it doesn't matter if I have the player setup in Local Network Mode or BrightSign Network Mode I get errors.

For example if the Player is in Local mode I get the 10x Red LED and the unit keeps rebooting unless I disable the "autorun" via the builtin diagnostic section within the  web server.

However if I use the same another unit is BrightSign Network mode I get emails coming back informing me that it is in an error state and they list "4/18/2016 2:51:27 PM UTC: Syntax Error. (runtime error &h02) in SD:/autorun.brs(28472); (Error code: 0)"

I am using v7.4.16 Autorun with Firmware v6.0.51

    Hi,

I have noticed the same fault again.

The system has been running fine for almost a week, I then updated the schedule via the BrightSign Network and on the next reboot the same fault happened.

I have checked the error log via the BSN and it lists:

    21 Apr 2016 05:07:18 UTC
    ScriptRuntimeError
    Message: Syntax Error. (runtime error &h02) in SD:/autorun.brs(28472);

I have rebooted the unit and uploaded a new layout but the system still has the same issue.  The only way I resolved it last time was to leave it unplugged for an hour.  After that time it downloaded the layout and the schedule without an issue.

    Any ideas

This is the line where the failure is occurring:

    if item.type = "text/html" or item.type = "application/widget" or item.medium = "document" then

DO you have a project or combination of projects that can cause this problem more frequently? If so, I'd like to get those so I can duplicate on my end and then look at what exactly is causing the failure. A tthe moment, it seems like a bug in the autorun script that playsback your project.

But I need access to a failing player to find out what on that line is invalid.

    Was this issue ever resolved?

I seem to be having the same issue on an XD232 as well.

    Error message below:

10 Red LED flashes and eventually reboots and repeats the cycle.

6/13/2016 3:01:16 AM UTC: STOP (runtime error &hf7) in SD2:/autorun.brs(28958); (Error code: 0)

    Hi Dan,

The issues relates to a glitch in the firmware, specifically to do with 'Dynamic Playlists' on a BrightSign Network account.

If you have a playlist that either has no images assigned or it contains images which are not scheduled to appear (All Paused or Stopped) then the Player gives the Red LED 10 times and then it reboots.

To work around the glitch I have setup a Presentation which the client changes the images once a week to keep upto date with their Menu Board without scheduling any dates; if they don't need an image relating to the Menu item then they insert a 'Blank' image.

I am still waiting for a new firmware to be released which fixes this issue as they client would like to schedule upto 9 weeks ahead which matches their Term Menu selections.

    Cheers. Chris

I am having the same issue with the most current f/w and my XD1230 and using BSA 4.4.0.15.

The player boots to the f/w (6.1.76) screen but 10x flash errors when trying to load from the SD card.

How can I generate a log detailing the error?

In the system log on the player, does it show the line that the unit crashed on? After boot, but before crash and reboot, go to http://playeripaddress/lastkmsg.html.

    For example:

    http://10.1.1.109/lastkmsg.html

From one of my players, it starts like this:

What does the log tell you about this error?

The log says the unit's crashing in the recovery script. usually, that only happens if there's a registry problem.

If you power up with no sd card, you get the same 10 flashes?

I would reset the unit to factory defaults, and see if it still fails.

Then, if it boots fine, redo the brightsign network setup for that player with diagnostics enabled for setup. I want to see if it is able to boot fine before setup, and then if the ethernet test fails.

    w/o card: powers-up fine

When I try to default the unit using this method, I still get the 10 flashes.

    What can I try next?

And, your card's formatted fat32? Please send a screenshot of what's on the sd card when you get the errors. Please send the file from your sd card as well.

    FAT32, Yes.

The only file on the card is the "autorun.brs" DL'd from the "Performing a factory reset" page.

After running through the process again, the player seems to have read "autorun.brs" and restored itself.

I was also able to load the "autorun.zip" demo file above and get it to run.

I'm not sure what changed but the unit seems to be working now.

    Thanks.

I get this error on our XD1034 units that are about 800 miles away. By reading this old and long thread it looks like I am taking an expensive road trip to reset to defaults, format the sd card and copy a new autorun.zip to the card. Why? Hasn't? This? Bug? Been? Fixed? You have had at least 6 years to do so.

If there is a better, easier OR REMOTE way to do this please reply.
