My video files don't play on the BrightSign player

Last Updated: October 20, 2016

If your video isn't playing, it might be an unsupported format/codec, or it might not meet the required specifications to play on the BrightSign player. It might also just have the wrong extension.

  1. Download sample video content from our website to rule out a problem with the display, cables, hardware, etc.
  2. Check that your video file extension is supported by the player. This FAQ outlines currently supported file types.
  3. Verify that your video uses a recommended constant bitrate (CBR) of 25Mbps (or 30 to 40Mbps on XTx43, XDx33, and 4Kx42 models). See the Optimizing Video Quality tech note for more details.
  4. Verify that the video does not exceed a maximum video resolution of 1920x1080 (or 4096x2160 for 4XTx43, XDx33, and 4Kx42 models).

Note: You can normally use the same authoring application used to create your video content to convert between video and stream formats. There are also several inexpensive or free utilities available to convert between formats: See this FAQ for more details.
