Do I need additional software in order to use my BrightSign player?

For most applications, we recommend using BrightAuthor:connected, available for download for Windows, Mac, and as a web-based Google Chrome application.

Note: BrightAuthor and BrightSign Network can still be used to manage and publish BrightSign players. No end-of-life announcement has been made for BrightAuthor, BrightSign Network, or BrightSign Network Enterprise Edition by BrightSign. Refer to this article for updates on end-of-life announcements.

If you wish to play content in a simple looping playlist--without interactivity, remote scheduling, or day-parting capabilities--you can publish content directly to the player using these steps:

  1. Place your content on the root folder of your SD card (e.g. "SD:/").
  2. Turn off the BrightSign player by unplugging the power adapter (or Ethernet cable if the unit is being powered by PoE).
  3. Insert the SD card into the player.
  4. Turn on the player by reconnecting the power. The content will begin playing after a few moments.

Note: Content files on an SD card will play alphabetically in a continuous loop.

You can also author content using HTML/JavaScript (on supported players), or you can create presentations using BrightScript.
