Can I synchronize multiple BrightSign players?

Last Updated: April 14, 2021

NoteThis article describes an old (though still valid) method for creating video walls. See this FAQ for an up-to-date list of options for creating a video walls.

Yes, all networked BrightSign models support synchronization over Ethernet using BrightAuthor. You can synchronize up to 255 units on a local subnet (and up to double that number if you can bridge two subnets). Synchronized presentations are created in BrightAuthor with an Interactive playlist.

Watch the following videos to learn more about synchronization:

You can only synchronize BrightSign players that belong to the same model family: For example, you can synchronize an HD222 player with an HD1022 player, but you cannot synchronize an HD222 player with an XD232 player.

Keep the following points in mind when using synchronization:

  • Synchronization is not supported over Wireless.
  • You cannot use the Synchronize command and the Pause Video command at the same time.
  • We recommend using the latest production BrightAuthor and firmware versions available from the Downloads page.
  • When using players with different firmware versions (not recommended), make sure the Master has the same or older firmware version as the slave players.

    Are the HD220 and HD222 different generations (can they be synced)?

    Yes, HD220 and HD222 are the players of different generations. HD222 is more powerful. You can synchronize them, but be aware that the differences in overall processing speed can cause delayed reactions on interactivity between players. Really depends on what the sync usage is and how accurate you want sync to be. To get best sync results, we recommend using the players of the same product line. So sync HD220 with HD220 and HD1020. Accordingly, sync HD222 with HD222 and HD1022.

    I want to ask,

    I have 1 unit of brightsign xt 1143 and 3 units brightsign LS 423

    Can i brightsign LS 423 show me the same video / Content from brightsign xt 1143?

    example in brightsign LS 423 it will be the same content from brightsign xt 1143..

    thanks

    If the LS423 is playing HD content, and the XT1143 is playing 4K, then yes you can sync them.

    If you are trying to play 4K on all, this won't work as the LS423 won't play 4K video.

    I've been following help files all around this site. There are broken links, old files that don't match the current software, and misleading help files. I just want to know HOW to sync two brightsigns over a network. No luck.

    Hello, I am thinking about setting up a 2 wide and 3 high video wall set-up with Samsung displays that support videowall mode (stretching out the image)

    i want to divide it in 1,5 segment.. (so one 2x2 videowall with one brightsign, and the remaining 1x2 another brightsign) I'll fool the second videowall like a 2x2 so I will only get half of the image.

    The reason why I do this is because the client wishes to show a demo that is being displayed on a touchscreen, that is of course 16:9. I want to use a XT brightsign with HDMI input for the 2x2 and for the bottom screens a XD233. Whenever there is no demo the whole videowall has to play a video, that I need to put in sync.. (the two presentations will be switched by the press of a button with GPIO) so my question basically is, is it possible to sync a XT brightsign with a XD (same processor and everything..)

    You don't need an XT for the top 2x2 wall, an XD233 will be fine unless you need serial control. The XT is only really needed if you need to do pass through encoding of another source.

    The bottom 1x2 wall you can run from a HD or even an LS just fine. You will have to send the screens a HD signal anyway, so no need to push to a XD. You'll need to scale your content down to a single HD screen but that isnt hard to do (and I'm sure your client will just pass you HD content anyway!).

    You can use sync commands in your presentation in BA to force a sync based on a variable, say interactiveMode = 1 or 0, for when your 16:9 touchscreen is active, and you can use a UDP command from whatever device is controlling the touch screen display to toggle that variable.

    I'm sorry Ross, I didn't explain myself very good (not my native language)

    I've got two presentations that the client is going to switch in between.

    one is that there will be a video displayed across all 6 screens.

    one is that they will mirror a touchscreen (so computer HDMI output split to touchscreen and xt input) on the upper half of the screen setup. the two screens at the bottom will be displaying a logo from the company for the time being (trough XD brightsign)

    if they do not demonstrate the touch video they want to switch back to a full screen video, thats why the gpio and the enhanced sync for two brightsigns.

    but because the XT are quite expensive and we don't have it in stock, I was wondering if I could use 1 XT and 1 XD that we already have.

    P.S. I could then also use a LS423 for the bottom screen in this case? (because everything is FHD its just that I need the XT for the HDMI input)

    So long as the players are within the same family you won't have issues with sync events. XT you will need for sure if you're passing through video. You can use the XT as the master, and have it issue play events for the logo when showing the touch panel content no problem.

    okay, so a video across the 6 screens with an extra XD won't allow me to sync, right?

    is the XD1132 able to synchronise up to 12 players?

    @Hamza if you use enhanced sync, yes you can use XD & XT players to sync. As long as the players are the same series / generation, they will work reliably. We have used many presentations with an XT3 and XD3 series player, and quite a few 4K and LS2 presentations as well.

    @Quintus if you have 12 XD1132s sure, they will sync. You do not need a 'master' player of higher spec to do a synched presentation. As long as the players are the same series they will work.

    Hi! I have 2 Brightsign LS423 players (bought them a year ago), would it be possible to accurately enhanced sync them with an LS424? (Normal, looped videoplayback across 3 screens, 1080p)

    @Ross Halford

    Thank you so much for your reply;-) I love that this (the BrightSign,) community is so lively! I actually was managed to sync them and have the content stretched over those displays. Thank you!

    @shiftdel

    I really didn’t have an issue when I’ve synced those players. Someone correct me if i’m wrong;-) i’ve Even combined hd222 with ls423 and it was possible to have them synced. No tearing or noticeable delay’s between them when using enhanced sync.

    @ hamza

    Thanks a lot for your answer! I am just asking because it is mentioned at some places that the players MUST be the same generation in order to sync well. I am planning to buy a third one and I definitely do not want to invest in a 300Euro+ gear that does not even perform well together with the two that I bought less than a year ago. So if I am using the same bright author version, the same firmware version and the correct video compression settings, they should be synced without any problem, right?

    Hi shiftdel,

    I’m definitely not an expert but I have used it before. And the best experience is when everything is on the same firmware and same codec usage. What I normally do if i’m not sure, is to lend/rent a player (not expensive) and test it out. In my experience it worked with different generations but then again, my setup was not two screens directly next to each other (there was a 1 meter gap in between) the naked eye didn’t revealed latency between the screens. it all depends of course on a lot of factors.

    @hamza

    Thanks a lot for the info! Unfortunately lending/renting an LS424 is not an option at the place where I live. Since I need all the screens right next to each other as a videowall, your testing setup is not 100% applicable to my needs at the moment. As far as I understand we still do not know for sure if the LS423s would perfectly sync with the LS424.

    Is there anyone who could provide me some info about the above mentioned problem?

    Hi

    I'm trying to sync 4 brightSign XD1034s together and start a video from a button input on the master device. The synchronization signal does not seem to be received by the slave devices over the network. Any suggestions for debugging this?

    Many thanks in advance!
