Do I have to configure my firewall to allow the BrightSign player to connect to the Internet?

No, BrightSign players use standard HTTP commands to communicate, and they utilize the same port as your web browser. The only configuration change you may need to make is opening UDP port 123 when using an NTP time server (players use an HTTP time server by default).
