Supported touchscreens

Last Updated: July 22, 2022

Overview

BrightSign players are compatible with USB touchscreens that use standard HID drivers. A touchscreen with standard HID drivers will work with any operating system that has HID drivers installed--without requiring additional drivers from the manufacturer. Be careful: some manufacturers say they support HID but still use custom drivers that are incompatible with BrightSign players.

Important: Don't forget to download and run the Calibration Script for your touchscreen.

Other Support Technologies

The following list describes some other touchscreen technologies that are compatible with BrightSign players. There may be other compatible touchscreens that are not listed here, but we cannot guarantee them.

If you are testing a touchscreen for compatibility with BrightSign players, make sure to use the most recent version of firmware. Visit the Software Downloads page to get the most up-to-date firmware.

3M

We support 3M DST & Capacitive touch screens using both HID and custom drivers. Touch screen providers that use 3M technology include NEC, Planar, Horizon Displays, Samsung, Sharp, IBM, LG, Asus, Dell, and Sanyo.

ELO

We support many Elo touch technologies, including IntelliTouch, which is the most commonly used Elo touch technology. See this article for more details.

The following manufacturers use Elo: Luvox, NEC, Planar, HP, and Sanyo.

Note: We do not support APR – Acoustic Pulse Recognition. Most models are available using different touch technologies, even if some are not listed as part numbers on Elo's website.

I-TECH

BrightSign players should be compatible with any touchscreen that uses the eGalax driver. Touchscreen providers using eGalax include I-TECH NEC, Dell, and Planar.

NEC

Supported models include the OVL-V463 (overlay) and MultiSync V462 TM. Before you use the MultiSync V462 TM touchscreen with a BrightSign player, you must connect it to a Windows PC and run the "Lumio Crystal Touch Manager" application. Use the following settings: Linux OS, "Legacy HID Support" unchecked, and more than 1 touch.

PQLabs

BrightSign players support newer PQ Labs touch controllers that are HID compatible. However, many older PQ Labs controllers use non-HID drivers and do not work with BrightSign players.

RNDPLUS

BrightSign players are compatible with touchscreens that use the RNDPLUS touch controller. TSItouch overlays and some Philips screens use the RNDPLUS controller for touch overlays. Note that the controller must be set to stylus mode to work with BrightSign players.

SHARP

Sharp PN-L651H is HID-compliant but may require a firmware update.
User-reported working Firmware Version is PN-L651H_Firmware_v2_4_0_1-6616_v2_0_2

Finding the USB Controller ID

If you’re unsure what touch controller your touchscreen model uses, check this list first. If it is not listed there, we can help you find the controller: You'll need to locate the USB VID:PID for the screen and forward it to support@brightsign.biz. You can normally find this information by connecting the touch screen to a Windows computer and checking its properties in the Device Manager. The touch screen will normally be listed under Mouse and other pointing devices or under Human Interface Devices.

  1. Right-Click on the touch controller and choose Properties.
  2. Click on the Details tab in the Properties window.
  3. Select either Hardware ID or Device Instance ID.

For example: USB\VID_0EEF&PID_0001\5&262929C3&0&2

Does this problem occur with 1 particular presentation? Have you tested with different touch projects? For the presentation that doesn't respond correctly after some time, open it in BrightAuthor version that was used to create this project originally, go to File - Export "presentation name", export the project to a folder on your PC, zip and send it to support@brightsign.biz for review.

Try updating the firmware on the XD1030 to version 4.7.112 and updating BrightAuthor to 3.7.0.37. Use BA 3.7.0.37 to publish the project and confirm if problem persists.

What do you think about these foils http://www.displax.com/en/products/products/skin-multitouch.html?

    The drivers are here: http://support.displax.com/downloads.php

Do you think could be compatible with the BS?

Have you tried using the brightsign with this screen? We would recommend trying it with the latest firmware version.

BenQ in the UK has successfully tested their touch-screens with an XD1030 running firmware 4.7.112:

    T420 –             42” Optical Touch Screen;     Passed.

    TL550 –           55” Optical Touch Screen;     Passed

    IL420 -             42” Infra-red Touch Screen;   Passed

    • All screens recognized the player with no need to adjust resolution or calibrate.
    • We were able to navigate the content provided with ease.  Note; the content provided did not allow me to test multi-touch gestures. (Wayfinder demo).

We recently did some testing with Elo screens on the HD1020 and XD players running 4.7.122 and later. Some Intellitouch plus screens are now supported in addition to the other touch technologies mentioned below.

    Single Touch Intellitouch

Elo TouchSystems 2700 IntelliTouch(r) USB Touchmonitor Interface

    Intellitouch Plus

Elo TouchSystems 2515 IntelliTouch Plus USB Touchmonitor

Elo TouchSystems 2521 IntelliTouch Plus USB Touchmonitor

    Projective Capacitance

ELO TouchSystems Projected-Capacitive USB Touchmonitor Interface

    **

Accutouch (Resistive) [ Requires calibration ]

    Elo TouchSystems AccuTouch 2218

    **

    Optical Multitouch

    ver 2.1.9.0

    Edited: 8/18/2014

Note: Intellitouch plus controller 2515-07 is not supported fully yet. We are working a solution. 2515-07 is currently used in several models. See Elo section above for list of models customers have reported problems with.

Looking for a 32" panel that supports gesture and single point touch.  Has anyone had success with a 32" panel?

Regarding the support for The ELO Intellitouch Plus, does this mean, that the BrightSigns also support multitouch functionality (pinch zoom, etc.) or not? I would just like to know, so we don't spend extra money on a feature that will not be usable.

    Thank you.

BrightSign HDx20 and XD players have been tested with a range of Elo touchscreens, including single and multi-touch.

We support multitouch via the JavaScript API. We don't support pinch zoom and similar gestures.

You can write JS code that handles multiple touches, but the HTML widget doesn't do zoom from them.

    Also, BrightScript is still single-touch.

But if you have a multi-touch screen, we will generate the equivalent single-touch events, so it will work with scripts etc.

Thank you for the information. It's just what I neede to know.

Regarding the JavaScript API, is there a resource where the API and documentation of the API (possibly with the latest added features), like github or something similar? I looked around a bit, but was unable to find it (maybe I looked in all the wrong places).

    Thank you again.

Just tried 4.7.122 on an XD1020 with two different ELO Intellitouch Plus monitors, and it didn't seem to work at all. It was an existing project authored in 3.5.0.31 of BrightAuthor - should that make any difference?

There are two scripts you can run in the attached zip file. Both will generate a log file on your sd card you can send us. We've recently found two intellitouch plus screens that send malformed data. The log will tell us if your screen has the same ID as the problem one we found. We just need to add this ID to our firmware as one needing tje special workaround that's already in place.

Both of the screens below use the same 2515 touchcontroller from elo. We're currently getting an updated list of IDs from elo that are known to send incorrectly formatted data.

For example, this screen is fine:

    P: Vendor=04e7 ProdID=0022 Rev= 1.16
    S: Manufacturer=Elo TouchSystems

But, this one needs to have its ID added for a workaround:

    P: Vendor=04e7 ProdID=0126 Rev= 1.22
    S: Manufacturer=Elo TouchSystems

The calibration script failed, it wouldn't do anything. The TouchCapture script, on the other hand, reported this:

    P: Vendor=04e7 ProdID=0126 Rev= 1.22
    S: Manufacturer=Elo TouchSystems
S: Product=Elo TouchSystems 2515 iTouch Plus USB Touchmonitor

So it would seem it's got the same issue as you noted above. Attached is the HTML file. So it looks like that's the issue.

I'm sending some pre-release software to test. It's not suitable to a production unit.  But, it will tell us if the workaround works.

I'm having the same problem (possibly eith the same monitor.

To me, the cal sctipt runs, but the calibration does not do anything. The cross is displayed but I can not click it. After the timeout, the "Calibration complete." text is displayed. (Maybe you could add a fix, that tells calibration error to the user, when the timeout finishes, but the calibration is not done).

I'm attaching the lig files. I would be really grateful if you could send to me the "fix" aswell, so I can go on with the development. We won't be sending it to the user yet (deadline is over one month), but I would really need the development to go on.

    Thank you.

Roni, we're looking into a problem with intellitouch plus units using controller 2515, product id 0126. This version of the 2515 appears to not be HID. We're working with Elo to add support for it.  I've added your log for our developers to review.  I've also updated the information in the faq above with new info from elo about which screen uses the problem 2515 controller, and which don't.  2515-07, the controller you have, is being phased out by elo, replaced by 2521, which is also HID. I'll update here once a new firmware is available that fixes the issue.

Roni, I see you tested the touchscreen with the XD1030 using firmware 4.7.112. We have posted version 4.7.146 today. It doesn't include the fix for the Intellitouch plus screen that was mentioned in our previous post, but it has some other touchscreen improvements. So please update FW on the XD1030 to version 4.7.146 and re-test. You may need to reset the unit to factory defaults to clean old touchscreen calibration info from the unit registry. If touchscreen doesn't work after updating the firmware on the brightsign, run the calibration script on the unit with the touchscreen connected. The calibration script can be download from the Software Downloads page, beside 4.7.146 firmware version for XD players.

I did as you suggested, with no success. I am attaching the new logs. Today I remembered, that I did not  try with a powered hub (as suggested somewhere). Do you think it would make any difference (I saw that the touch panel should need only about 4mA, whics is quite low for a USB device, so I doubt it would be beter as I understand there is a problem with the data format). If you would need me to test something else, you can send it to me no problem.

Which touchscreen is this? Does it use standard HID drivers? Did you test it with the XD1230 and confirm it doesn't react to touches? Does the unit work properly with a usb mouse (same project)?

    Hi

It's an overlay 46" PQlabs G3 (not a touch screen) that we put on any screen. It does'nt use standard HID drivers.

I test with the XD1230 and it does'nt react and yes i tested with a mouse and it's ok.

    Hello.

I would like to ask if there is any news for the 4.8.x beta with the 4.8.70 fix fot the ELO 2515-07 controller. We have a touch display, that would really like to be used instead of sitting on a shelf unused.

    Thank you.

    Hi,

we use Brightsign XD1230 on many EloTouch monitors, but we find this two things:

    1) If we use HTML5 on EloTouch 4201L, there are not working touch from 1042 at x-axis(touch event are triggered only to 1042), if we use on same monitor clean Brightsign app it works perfectly.

    2) And again if we use HTML5 app on EloTouch 2201L it works perfectly but after 3 months it starts need double touch on simple click(touch) event. If we use on this monitor clean Brightsign app it works perfectly..

Anybody has same problem? Some solution?

    Thank You

Hello, has anyone some experiences with interactive Touch foil? We need use ProTouch iFoil with XD1030. Is it possibility to integrate with XD or HD players? Or witch touchfoil brightsign players support?

The NextWindow business operations have now closed.

Visual Planet - we are not able to supply foils with brightsign media players.

With touch foil (if any) player support or is it possible prepare update with driver? :))

    Thanks

Thank you for the beta firmware. I managed to get the monitor with the ELO 2515-07 controller. At first the calibration did not work as expected (after the first touch it looped through all of the calibration bmps because it was registering false positives), but the xd1230 fixed itself after I ran the touchdiag tool (the calibration script performed normally then and was able to calibrate the screen).

I ran some html5 touch tests. The tracking is good, but I found that the mouseup event is registered twice at the release. Do I file a bug report?

To my surprise I also saw, that the touches are registered as mouse actions (mousedown, mouseup, click) instead of touch actions (touchstart, touchend, ...) is this normal? Or am I missing some menu settings?

    Thank you.
