Supported touchscreens

Last Updated: July 22, 2022

Overview

BrightSign players are compatible with USB touchscreens that use standard HID drivers. A touchscreen with standard HID drivers will work with any operating system that has HID drivers installed--without requiring additional drivers from the manufacturer. Be careful: some manufacturers say they support HID but still use custom drivers that are incompatible with BrightSign players.

Important: Don't forget to download and run the Calibration Script for your touchscreen.

Other Support Technologies

The following list describes some other touchscreen technologies that are compatible with BrightSign players. There may be other compatible touchscreens that are not listed here, but we cannot guarantee them.

If you are testing a touchscreen for compatibility with BrightSign players, make sure to use the most recent version of firmware. Visit the Software Downloads page to get the most up-to-date firmware.

3M

We support 3M DST & Capacitive touch screens using both HID and custom drivers. Touch screen providers that use 3M technology include NEC, Planar, Horizon Displays, Samsung, Sharp, IBM, LG, Asus, Dell, and Sanyo.

ELO

We support many Elo touch technologies, including IntelliTouch, which is the most commonly used Elo touch technology. See this article for more details.

The following manufacturers use Elo: Luvox, NEC, Planar, HP, and Sanyo.

Note: We do not support APR – Acoustic Pulse Recognition. Most models are available using different touch technologies, even if some are not listed as part numbers on Elo's website.

I-TECH

BrightSign players should be compatible with any touchscreen that uses the eGalax driver. Touchscreen providers using eGalax include I-TECH NEC, Dell, and Planar.

NEC

Supported models include the OVL-V463 (overlay) and MultiSync V462 TM. Before you use the MultiSync V462 TM touchscreen with a BrightSign player, you must connect it to a Windows PC and run the "Lumio Crystal Touch Manager" application. Use the following settings: Linux OS, "Legacy HID Support" unchecked, and more than 1 touch.

PQLabs

BrightSign players support newer PQ Labs touch controllers that are HID compatible. However, many older PQ Labs controllers use non-HID drivers and do not work with BrightSign players.

RNDPLUS

BrightSign players are compatible with touchscreens that use the RNDPLUS touch controller. TSItouch overlays and some Philips screens use the RNDPLUS controller for touch overlays. Note that the controller must be set to stylus mode to work with BrightSign players.

SHARP

Sharp PN-L651H is HID-compliant but may require a firmware update.
User-reported working Firmware Version is PN-L651H_Firmware_v2_4_0_1-6616_v2_0_2

Finding the USB Controller ID

If you’re unsure what touch controller your touchscreen model uses, check this list first. If it is not listed there, we can help you find the controller: You'll need to locate the USB VID:PID for the screen and forward it to support@brightsign.biz. You can normally find this information by connecting the touch screen to a Windows computer and checking its properties in the Device Manager. The touch screen will normally be listed under Mouse and other pointing devices or under Human Interface Devices.

  1. Right-Click on the touch controller and choose Properties.
  2. Click on the Details tab in the Properties window.
  3. Select either Hardware ID or Device Instance ID.

For example: USB\VID_0EEF&PID_0001\5&262929C3&0&2

I've had two customers fail to get the dell to work. So, at the moment, it's not supported.

Has anyone tried the ViewSonic TD2220 yet? (supports the USB HID Touch driver)

I'm looking for a reasonably priced 20"-24" widescreen display for programming/testing.  Many of the displays on this list seem to be discontinued now.

    Thanks!

    John,

We use a Planar PX 2230MW here for programming/testing.  USB touch works great with the HD and XD models.

    Working - ELO 4200L (PN#E841203), ELO 4600L (PN#E960985), ELO 2639L (PN#E324736), Planar PXL2230MW

Working with work-around - Nextwindow 2700 Overlay, Portrait - Needs USB hub with XD unit or it is not recognized, works ok with HD units

Working but not documented/supported - ELO 1547L over RS232 interface - Requires custom autorun with proper touchscreen initialization routine.

Anyone know if the HP/Compaq L2206 will work with the BrightSign? I can't seem to find any info on who makes the touch screen technology for it, and no one locally has one for us to try out. The 2105's work great, but they've been discontinued so looking for an alternative in the same price-point.

Has the Samsung CY-TM40LBC - 40” Touch Overlay been tried and approved?

If not we need a recommendation for the Samsung ME40C. The PQ Labs 40" overlay failed.

If you are looking for a 40" we have had good luck with the ELO 4200L just make sure it's the IntelliTouch model. They work great and look good to boot. They are a bit bulky though, but decent display and touchscreen is fast and works well.

So the ones in the list are supported?

I need to know if the Hyunday D320MLI is supported, and the D405MLI is in the list...

This list http://touch-base.com/touch_device_list.asp helps you to find what controller your screen uses. It doesn't mean that all touchsreens that are mentioned there are supported by the brightsign.

We don't have any records of customers using the Hyunday D320MLI touchscreen. Please contact the manufacturer to find out what kind of controller it uses, and whether the controller uses HID drivers. If it's HID, then no drivers are needed, and it should work with anything. We recommend testing.

Does the Samsung MagicTune Touch work with Brightsign? I am wanting to use a Samsung 24 inch Touch Screen Series 7 (S24C770T).

    Thanks.

Jamie, according to Samsung website, this screen is not compatible with linux, and our players are linux based. It may work, but the only way to confirm is to test it with the brightsign unit.

    Tested with an Hyunday D320MLI.

It works fine, but after some time, it seems not to respond correctly. If I reboot the unit it works ok again.

Any idea of what could be the cause?

Alfonso, it could be the problem with your content or SD card. Please test with a different known good SD card. Format SD card in FAT32, then test again. Have you tested the project with a usb mouse? Unplug the touchscreen from the brightsign, connect a usb mouse. Open a presentation in BrightAuthor, go to File > Presentation Properties > Interactive tab, tick "always display cursor". Save and publish a presentation to SD card, power up the unit with SD card and a usb mouse connected, and test whether the problem persists or not. If the same issue happens with a mouse, then your presentation or SD card is the reason. What is the model of your brightsign unit? What firmware version is installed on the brightsign unit? Power up the unit without SD card - the firmware version will appear on the screen.

The BS is an XD1030, FW 4.6.66. Firstly I tested it with the "always display cursor", and it seems to be ok.

Then, i quit the cursor and it seems to work ok too, but now my customer told me that when the unit is some time working fine, the problem appears..

The instalation is far away, so i can´t test it as i´d like. The cards are the ones I use always, transcend I remember.

I didn´t try with a mouse, but if it´s working for a time, i don´t know why it fails after some time, but as i understand,

it has not to be a problem with the touch screen, isn´t it?

I´ll try to get more info about the problem.

    Thanks

It's unlikely that the problem is with the touchscreen.

Isn't Transcend one of the brands of SD Cards that have been know to have issues with BrightSign players?

Yes, we don't recommend using the Transcend cards with the BrightSign players. Some customers have reported playback problems and IO errors with Transcend.

Cards changed, and the behaviour still the same.., It works fine, but after some time....

Could the 110V current could cause some issues?..

I don´t know what to think, the display is my only option, but it works for a time...
