H.264 is the only codec supported for MOV and MP4 files (4K players can play H.265-encoded MOV and MP4 files as well). Note the following restrictions with H.264-encoded video:
- MOV files with compressed “atoms” (i.e. metadata) are not supported.
- AAC audio is supported for H.264 files: CBR is supported, while VBR is not supported
- Base, Main or High Profile up to level 4.2 are supported (HDx10, HDx20, and LSx22 support up to level 4.1, and may support level 4.2 depending on the application)
- The maximum recommended bit rate is 25Mbps
- The maximum supported video resolution is 1920x1080x60p
Important: H.264 is the only supported codec for .MOV and .MP4 files. Codecs like Divx, Apple ProRes, Motion JPEG, etc are NOT supported but can also be found inside MOV/MP4 files.
