Supported audio streaming protocols

Last Updated: November 5, 2014

Starting with BrightAuthor version 3.7.0.12, you can now stream unicast and multicast audio to BrightSign players using the Audio Stream state. This FAQ details the types of audio streams that are supported:

  • Streaming Protocols: UDP, RTP, RTSP, HTTP
  • Encapsulation: MPEG2 TS (transport stream)
  • Codecs: MPEG2 Layer 1/2, MPEG2 Layer 3 (mp3), AAC, WAV
  • Bitrates: Any supported by the codec
  • Sample Rates: 32kHz, 44.1kHz, 48kHz
  • Channels: Mono, stereo
  • Other TechnologiesSource-Specific Multicast (IGMPv3) streaming (requires FW 6.2.147 or later)

Note If you are running into audio quality issues as a result of poor network performance, you can try increasing the size of the streaming buffer on the player.

I understand not necessarily wanting to endorse a specific product or service, but can you give an example of a working commercial product that produces what is necessary to stream audio to a player?

I have a Wowza Server and the Opticodec from Orban, though it doesn't seem to be up to the job.

You can try looking at shoutcast streams. We don't have any specific radio recommendations. For example, these audio streams should work:

    http://yp.shoutcast.com/sbin/tunein-station.m3u?id=256133

    and

    http://yp.shoutcast.com/sbin/tunein-station.xspf?id=256133

Below are the steps that you need to take:

I'm having troubles streaming audio from VLC to my player.

I believe I have stuck to the supported protocols and formats that are given above but it's just not working.

Initially I used the audio stream event in BrightAuthor and linked this to m3u stream and this worked great. But now i want the ability to stream audio from a computer to player.

Can anyone help me with this matter?

In the beginning, I made advantage of BrightAuthor's audio stream event and tied it to a m3u stream. Both of these methods were quite successful. However, I would like to be able to stream audio from a computer to a player in the future.

I can not find the information here.
