How do I display 4K images/stills on a 4Kx42 (4K242, 4K1042, 4K1142) player?

Last Updated: July 15, 2019

You can display 4K images using BrightAuthor versions 4.3.0.x and later. To display a 4K image, add it to a Background Image zone or use the 4K Image Plugin. You can also add the 4K images to a Data Feed and check the Support 4K Images box.

Note: Displaying a 4K image will consume the 4K video decoder on the player, so you won't be able to display both a 4K image and a 4K video at the same time. Some newer player models support Full Resolution Graphics in certain output modes, which allows for display of images larger than 1920x1080 without consuming a 4K video decoder.

Is this still the case that still images have to be converted to video to be displayed at 4k? when I put 3840x2160 images in the root folder of the sd card to be autoplayed it seems to grab the center (the middle 1920x1080? I'm guessing?)

Well I just tried to add some images to the latest version of brightauthor 4.1.0.10 and it still says the photos must be 1920x1080. Frankly I'm shocked at how little supported still images are (and the lack of being able to swap them out dynamically). When I posted asking about 4k photo support on the xd1030s that scale to 4k, I was told that it was hardware limitation, but now that I have a 4k 1142 box, I see that there is also a software limitation that doesn't support 4k pictures files. There isn't a good 4k still image player on the market. The TV panels support 4k image playback now, but that don't support starting up in that mode on power failure.

Please consider adding support for 4k still images and making it easier to change out/swap those images for easy updates (restaurant owners/museum curators and so on should be able to update images directly on the sd card without ever touching brightsign)

    Hi,

Please refer to the below link to access a plugin that will allow you to playback 4K images without the need to convert them to video first.

Thank you, it was very useful to have the demo presentation as well. Hopefully someday the plugin will become part of the default brightauthor app so people don't have to find this page.

I work for Questacon, the National Science and Technology Centre in Australia.

We have recently purchased both XT244 and XD234 media players.

They both play 4K very nicely, but I have yet to discover a way to show 4K static images as a slide show using BA Connected.  Is there a method to do this yet without using the plugin or a data feed?
