How do I change the Time Server (NTP, HTTP) on a player using BrightAuthor?

Last Updated: April 3, 2015

You can use BrightAuthor to generate setup files to set the time server on a player.

  1. In BrightAuthor, navigate to Tools > Setup a BrightSign Unit.
  2. In the Time server field (under Network Properties), enter the time server address you wish to use:
    • ntp://host - Uses NTP.
    • http://host[:port] - Uses HTTP [with an optional port].
    • https://host[:port] - Uses HTTPS [with an optional port].
    • httpns://host[:port] - Uses HTTPS [with an optional port], but ignores cert failures.

If you have a BrightSign Network account, you can edit a player's time-server settings in BrightAuthor: Navigate to the Manage > Status tab, right-click the player, and select Edit.

This is not helpful as we do not use BrightAuthor. We use appspace and the player does not use the server from the script that is loaded. It would be helpful to have if the Time server and Time zone could be managed through a simple GUI. The current GUI available regarding setup time seems to be faulty as you are unable to disable PST.

Appspace should allow you to set the time server either during appspace setup, or through a device task. Have you asked appspace about a device task for setting the timezone?

    Lyndon,

our config-init.brs script has EST listed and our time server listed. We can ping the NTP server from the player we can do a DNS lookup from the player for our time server, yet the network config continues to show the Bright sign NTP address. There appears to be real issues with the Player code I have spent a lot of hours trying to fix a simple timezone/timeserver config. I'm finding these devices not very user friendly. I have even tried using the author and mobile app, the applications are unable to connect to the devices on our network even thought we can get to the players from the apppsp

ace application and from a browser.

what folder on the sd card is the config in located in? do you still have it in the examples folder? This an appspace configuration file. Did you contact appspace support about your inability to change the time server setting?

the config-init example sits in the examples folder. For it to actually be active it must be moved to the scripts folder. The settings in the confiig are applied at each boot. We have many cms providers that support the players, each with different configuration files.

As far as brightauthor and the mobile app. If players are configured to talk to the appspace server, brightauthor will not connect to them. They have to be configured to listen for connections from brightauthor.

Our app will connect to the unit only if the local web server on the unit is enabled during setup. Is the local server an option in the appspace setup? If not, then the app would not connect to the player. The local server port isn't open by default.

    Hello,

I created time server with ntp-4.2.8p13-win32-setup.exe  software on my PC.

What should be added ןn the Time server field (under Network Properties) ?
