Synchronization options

Last Updated: October 23, 2018

There are four methods for creating synchronized presentations. Use the following descriptions to decide which method is best for your digital signage deployment.

BrightWall™

Resources: BrightAuthor User Guide -- BrightWall Presentations

This feature allows streamlined creation and publishing of looping video playlists for video walls (images cannot be included in the playlist). BrightWall can be accessed by navigating to the Create tab and selecting BrightWall™. BrightWall is only available in BrightAuthor versions 3.8.0.x and later.

BrightWall is the easiest way to create and publish video walls:

  • It has tools for generating video wall content by splitting up a single video or integrating several video files into a synchronized wall.
  • It allows you to save the video wall project as a single presentation file. With standard synchronization or Enhanced Synchronization projects, you will need to create and manage multiple presentations (one master and one or more slaves) for a single deployment.
  • It allows for simplified publishing using Standalone or Local File Network methods. Standard and Enhanced Synchronization projects, on the other hand, require separate publishing steps for each player in a deployment.
  • Advanced IP configuration is not required for most networks.

The simplicity of BrightWall presentations also includes some drawbacks. You can only create simple looping playlists: There are no options for interactivity. Furthermore, only MP4 and TS video files are supported (images cannot be included in the playlist).

Autowall

The Autowall Plugin Kit allows you to publish video walls that automatically resize to fit the number of players in the wall. Autowall presentations play videos from BSN Dynamic Playlists or MRSS feeds (any image or audio files that are part of the feed will be ignored), and also supports a multiscreen-ticker option.

See this page to download and view instructions about the Autowall Plugin Kit.

Enhanced Synchronization

This option allows for more closely timed Synchronize events. Master and slave events execute within a few milliseconds of each other. Enhanced Synchronization can be enabled by navigating to File > Presentation Properties > Interactive. This feature is only available in BrightAuthor versions 3.8.0.x and later.

Enhanced Synchronization offers some of the benefits of BrightWall presentations without the same drawbacks—though they tend to be more complicated to create and publish. The close execution benefit applies only to image and video states within an interactive presentation: Synchronized transitions to and from audio files and presentation states (such as Event Handler, Live Text, and HTML5) do not benefit from Enhanced Synchronization.

NOTE: When using players with different firmware versions (not recommended), make sure the Master (Screen 1 in a BrightWall) has the same or older firmware version as the slave players.

Synchronization

Resources: Can I synchronize multiple BrightSign players?, How do I create a video wall?

This is the original synchronization option, which entails using Synchronize events and commands without enabling Enhanced Synchronization. This option should be used with legacy synchronized presentations.

How if, i have 1x3 wall and every wall have different video file with audio but in 1 timeline, so the 3 wall has sync, why my screen 1 only have audio and the screen 2 and 3 is none? is it possible that the screen 2 and 3 having audio also.

When using the BrightWall feature, audio only comes from the master unit. This is how the BrightWall feature was designed, to have one audio source.

If you want to have audio from all BrightSign units, you will need to use the Enhanced Synchronization or Synchronization methods.

I would just use 10 LS423s in a sync wall. I've done exactly as you describe in several locations with 10 screens over a year ago and it's still working flawlessly to date.

Is there a way to pauze and resume a brightwall presentation? Technically I need to start a brightwall presentation at a given moment, after that it can run in loop for the rest of the time.

Other question, does the audio on the hdmi on each player work when correctly selected when creating the brightwall presentation?

With BrightWall, there is no File Presentation Properties, Only File - BrightWall Presentation Properties. Once this opens there are only 3 tabs. Main- Configuration-Audio. No advanced.

So I cannot do any advanced sync. 4.7.0.20 is the bright author version.

Can someone please provide me with some feedback on running a 1  high x 5 wide video wall (panels are in portrait orientation). Each screen has been allocated an XT1143 (5 in total)

With BrightWall not supporting portrait video playback, I have been left to sync up via an interactive presentation.

Essentially the requirements are to playback individual content per panel for 15 seconds and then transition to a stretched video and so on.

Could anyone please kindly assist with this and with personal experience the best way to manage and schedule this setup. And should the content be designed stretched or split to suit each one of the 5 screens? taking in to count displaying individual content then transitioning to stretched (single stretched video across all screens).

    Regards,

    Hi @DH1991,

We've worked on a 1x3 videowall, and as for the format what we did is to create in our video editor a regular aspect ratio landscape area, then split that area into 3 horizontal areas, leave both the top and bottom in blank, and worked just in the middle area which is ultimately the area that will be visible when publishing the project. We found it easier than spliting the video into 3 and then sync them.

As for placing both individual and videowall presenations on one schedule, we had not had any luck or time to explore it deeply as we recently changed it into a 2x2 videowall(with processor) with one single player, so now every presentation I send automatically shows without spliting it as it works as it was just one monitor, and if I want to publish certain content indivudually I just create a presentation with 4 zones (that are my monitors).

Maybe for your project it would be easier to split the video, and creating 5 different presentations. Then placing each on individual schedules. (in my little experience when having several monitors playing the same content previously scheduled, they were all on sync). *We are pretty new on this so these are could be viable options you can try until finding the righ way :)

    regards,

Question, I have 2 XT1144 players, 1 player is my video content 4k, other player is a slide of text that shoes up when the video plays.  I am stuck at getting ti play back correctly, I have set the Enhanced Sync, all in the same group, same subnet, same network switch, my sync for video 1 is "vid1" video 2 is "vid2" i have the listening command on graphic BSP that when it hears "vid1" show picture, then same thing for the "vid2".   I can get the first one to work, but when second video plays, it does not show the slide for vid2?

Sorry if confused, but not sure how else to expalin, any help would be great...

How can I schedule URL to a brightwall? I tried using video stream component with the url i want but the duration does not working as i expected. I added 1 second duration to the url but when it runs the presentation I see its running for more than 10 seconds of black screen. Just a note the url is a rest call that returns text only with 200 status code.

I would like to synchronise 12 different videos on the same timeline for an art instalation with 12 screens. They all need to have their own audio source and loop seemlessly.

Does anyone know what brightsign player would be the best for this task (we're hoping for the ls424 due to budget) and what synchronisation method to use?

    thanks in advance!

    Hi Quintus,

Yes, BS players are indeed the right solution for your project. You must be careful about the length/duration and encoding of your videos. You should use a standard presentation with enhanced sync, as you have multiple videos on your video wall and not one big one.

    Cheers.

Thanks Julien for your response. When you say that i muse be careful about the length and encoding o the video, you mean that all the videos have the same length and codec, right?

Would anyone also know if the XD1132 would be able to loop the video's seemlessly (so without buffering or showing a black screen for a second)?

Yes, that was my point regarding the specs of your video. It's better to have everything encoded the same way.

The XD1132 is able to play seamlessly a looping video. You just need to make sure, when editing the video, that the next frame at the end is indeed the first one of it. Not sure this is clear, but, in short, your motion designer needs to make sure the video is in fact meant to loop.

Thank you once again Julien! It's very clear!

I only want to know for sure that the XD1132 is able to form a network with 11 other XD1132 units. Thank you so much!

    Hi all,

Whilst i'm aware that i can synch players form the same range, i'm wondering if you can create a brightwall with players that are a different model. Or is it only possible to synch different models using the more manual route?

If it's possible, what parameters do i use in the brightwall menu?

    I have 3 XD233 and a single XD234

I don't have the physical space here to test this, so saving some leg work by asking the question...

    thanks for any help

What factors in a network can block enhanced synchronisation? What ports and technonogy is required on the network in order to work?

we had a setup that synchronisation works without the checkbox enhanced synchronistations but won't work with the checkbox on. Only the master players plays video in that case. The managed network doesn't support multicast but multicast normal works by adding the equipment on a unmanaged switch. In this case we added the Brightsigns on a unmanaged switch on the managed network but it didnt work. We now tested with a router but like to know why it did not work on the managed network. ITsay they don't block any traffic but dont support multicast

    Hi Jaap,

You need support for multicast on your network devices for enhanced sync. This is mandatory. I had the case with a managed switch which was filtering multicast packets. I had to disable some features on the switch for the sync to work correctly.

    Hi everyone,

I would need a hint how to configure the following: the same video should play on three synched players, but with a timed offset. It is a landscape pan shot, and when it has reached the end of the first screen, it should seemlessly move onto the second one. It takes 18 seconds until the first screen has been passed, so the second video should start 18 seconds later than the first one (but from the beginning, not synced to the same frame). And the whole installation is a loop, so when the first video ends, it should loop, and 18 seconds later the second video should follow with the loop.

I played around a little with timeout, media end and sync events and event handler, but somehow didn't find the correct way to reach my goal.

    Could anyone help?

    Thanks!

Edit: Sorry for bothering you, I found out myself.
Video time code events sending UDP commands do the trick. I left the enhanced synchronization and Master/Slave boxes checked, although I doubt it has any influence on the playback in this UDP configuration. Unfortunately the loop on the slave players is not seemless, a little cut is visible, but maybe with some timing tweaks for the UDP commands it can be improved a bit.

Using this option, fireboy and watergirl Synchronization events may be timed more precisely.

After a modification to the configuration files or the startup environment information contained in the boot options file (BOF) dinosaur game, network administrators can specify the type of synchronization operation to be performed between the primary and secondary CPMs.

    Hi Ziggy,

interactive playlists are not possible in Brightwall afaik, use Enhanced Synchronization instead.
