BrightAuthor doesn't show one or more of my files under the Media Library

 Last Updated: October 27, 2015

BrightAuthor recognizes specific extensions for image, video, and audio files. Only files with these extensions appear in the Media Library. Additionally, if you select a zone in your project that only plays certain types of media (like an Video Only zone) only supported media types will be displayed.

Note: If you've added a file to your media library after opening BrightAuthor, you need to hit the Refresh button in the Media Library section.

Supported Extensions

Audio files: .mp3, .wav, .ac3 (pass through only)

Image files: .jpg, .png, .bmp

Video files: .mpg, .vob, .ts, .mov, .mkv, .mp4, .m2ts, .wmv

Text files: .txt

You may need to convert your file to a supported format. If you have a video that is the correct format, but has an unsupported extension, you can simply change the file's extension.

For some files, I see them in the media Llibrary but it doesn't show a miniature. Even if my file has the right extention, I can't open it in Bright Author.. My files open normally in the computer.

Go to Help - About BrightAuthor and let us know what software version do you use. What do you mean you can't open the file in BrightAuthor? You can't drop the file to a playlist? BrightAuthor can't playback the files, but the BrightSign unit can.

Saved .jpg files are not appearing in my media folder, after refreshing several times and restarting the program. I'm sure the content is in my destination folder. I've also tried dragging/dropping my jpgs into Bright Author but it won't allow it.  Here is the version I'm using - 4.6.0.14

    Thanks for any help.

Having the same problem.    Using BA v 4.6.0.35

I have JPEG files that are definitely in the destination folder (768 x 768 resolution 96dpi, 24 bit depth).  They will not show in the BA media library.  3 Images that this happens with.

Frustrating as Hell.  I have had more issues with BA 4.6 than I have ever had with previous versions.

A solution is required.  This is unacceptable for our clients.

OK so I have found the solution.  Format problem.

In modern windows you don't see a file extension in Windows Explorer (i.e. .bmp or .jpg), you only see a description in the column labelled 'Type'.

Brightauthor will not recognise .jpeg files, but only recognise .jpg files.  However both types show JPEG in the Windows Explorer 'Type' column.

Changing the images file extension to .jpg resolves the problem and it now displays in the Media Library.

The client system I am testing is Windows 7, but same method applies for Win 10.

Open "Control Panel / Appearance and Personalisation / Folder Options "  Go to the "View" tab and un-tick the option that says "Hide extensions for known file types"

Now in windows explorer when you have a Details view you will see file names with their file extension.  Change any .jpeg to .jpg and they will work with Brightauthor just fine.

    I hope this helps.

JPEG are so common and such an easy confusion with JPG I would think Brightauthor should include this file type as an accepted format.

Please send us the files that do not shows up in a support ticket and ensure Hide file extensions is Disabled in Windows Explorer. Often we see people who have images named Image1.jpg.jpeg which won't show up in the Media Library because the extension is .jpeg but if Windows is hiding file extensions it looks like it's named Image1.jpg while other images like Image.jpg show as just Image2

I have the same Problem with MacOS 10.15.7 and BA connected 1.7.10 - no .jpg Files are displayed (no matter if the have .jpg, .jpeg or no extension). It is also not possible to drag them on the Stage (unsupported Filetype: start.jpg could not be opend). I also tried .png and .bmp - no file can be imported. All Files are exported via Photoshop and different settings - this is very very frustrating. It's such a Basic thing!
