Unable to publish autoplay.xml file using Local File Networking

Last updated: May 9, 2018

If your Local File Networking publish fails, and the error indicates that the autoplay.xml file could not be published, this may be caused by a corrupted userpreferences.xml file. To fix this problem, try clearing your BrightAuthor user preferences by deleting all the userpreferences.xml files contained in the %localappdata%\BrightSign\BrightAuthor subfolders, then reopen BrightAuthor.

You'll find the user preferences file in %localappdata%\BrightSign\BrightAuthor
(type the address into the location/address bar)

You may need to set your computer to show hidden files and folders to find this folder.

Example: Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1, Windows 10
C:\Users\myusername\AppData\Local\BrightSign\BrightAuthor\2.0.0.44

Example: Windows XP
C:\Documents and Settings\myusername\Local Settings\Application Data\BrightSign\BrightAuthor\2.2.0.37

Alternatively, follow the steps in the FAQ below to edit your userpreferences.xml file to add the language section.

If clearing the user preferences does not solve your issue

Attempt to publish again, then exit BrightAuthor.  Submit a support ticket including the eventlog.txt file written by BrightAuthor.

This article describes where to find the BrightAuthor event log
Be sure not to relaunch BrightAuthor before retrieving the log, as it is rewritten on each start.

I am having the same issue as above but with Simple File Networking.

craig, what ba version are you using? can you post the eventlog.txt file from your attempted publish? If you can post sample bpf files, we can try and duplicate, and log a bug if we can.

Odd the error looks exactly as it should for the preferences file to be the fix. Usually this means there's a language entry missing from the preferences file. We can manually add it. If you can add the userperferences xml file to that share, I can see if we can manually add it.

The top of your log says this userpreferences file is missing from the main application folder...can you check if it's there, and you can open it..

I'm sorry for not following up. Is there a similar file in the same folder with your eventlog? If not, can you copy it from the templates folder to the eventlog folder?
