Do I need to purchase the GPIO board to have my brightsign respond to a button activation? Or, can I make my own "cable"?

sorry for the level of ignorance.......

  The button board is just an sample. You can make your own using the hardware diagram in the hardware guide.
  
  
  
  I can also provide some contacts who can make a custom interface for you that uses the same input on the Brightsign.
