Yet another product line..

More of a comment than a question.

With the introduction of the XD line featuring prominently on the new products page and the very new/recent HD 20 series pushed off to the side. Would it not have made more sense to release the 2 lines at the same time as a whole  refresh of the product line instead of confusing the product line with what appears to be quiet frequent updates.

It's nice to see that the HD 10 series have continued to receive feature/bug fix updates however assuming that is going to get stopped at some point. Any fixed date for this?

Interesting to see some of the rough specs for the XD line. From my point I have just finished a massive replacement project spec'ing HD 20's for purchase and now I have to go back and edit it as some of the XD features are quite useful and could have been useful to know about as I have designed other solutions with what it now turns out I can probably do with an XD box after all.

Is there much point buying any more HD 20's or even of the XD line or are you guys planning on superseding them in a few months time?

The plan had been to release both close to each other, but things don't always work out as planned. The 120-1020 are considered entry level models, and the xd are the high end models.  The XD, because of its beefed up hardware, has staying power. There are no plans for another hardware release on the heels of this product release. The lineup is now considered complete.

There's no fixed date for when bug fixes would stop. If there are any glaring bugs, those get fixed.

As far as point in buying the HD20s, yes. They start at a lower price point. So, for our customers where cost is very important, some prefer having access to the HD120 because it gives them flexibility. It all depends on what you  need. Even when we had just the HD 10s, some customers didn't need intereactivity or networking, so they went with the 110. ANd, some customers that needed networking, didn't need a serial port. So, this isn't any different. The HD 10s will fade away leaving just the HD 20s and the XD.

I can appreciate the need for low cost low feature vs high cost greater feature or "HD vs XD" we have always chosen the correct model for the job in fact it is one of the selling points for the BrightSign's.

It is also nice to know you guys don't plan on superseding them anytime soon as there is nothing worse than deciding on a product buying quiet a few and then finding they have been made EOL shortly after .

As for support I can only speak for myself but I have always received excellent support from you guys and you would know better than I how many HD10's are out there.

I know we have quiet a few and given their longevity (their original selling point) they are likely to be around for some time so I wouldn't expect them to "fade away" anytime soon.

Yes, there is an installed based. I meant only in the sense of new sales that they would fade away. THe capabilities of the 10s and 20s are very similar. THe 20s being a little faster, with better image playback speed, and some other slight performance improvements.

To compare to the XD, the XD is about 30x faster when it comes to image playback. So, you can display images for as little as .001 seconds allowing you to create animations simply by playing a number of images right after the other. So, there's great potential there for features that simply couldn't be done before because of the amount of power needed.

That is impressive, I look forward to seeing what is possible with the XD models.

Will it be possible to see flash support for the new XD? That would be really helpful. Another cool feature to include would be Z-Index for zone layering. Any thoughts you guys?

Z ordering is coming. I don't know what level of support it will ship with initially but you'll be able to do video over video and videos over images, image over image, etc.

With flash, unfortunately, Adobe isn't certifying new platforms for flash. They're pulling back on mobile support and our product falls under that mobile umbrella.

Oh so that's why you guys decided to opt for HTML 5. Nice move btw. Also, do you think the Z will be also available for current HD models?

The current 120, 220, and 1020 technically can support zordering but only with the rocanvas widget. That's currently only used for the livetext feature. So, it can be done with scripting.

The new hardware makes it very easy to do the z ordering. I don't know when or if some of the ordering features will make it to the 120-1020 units.

Do you know, when in December the new XD players will be shipped? And will they also be available from european resellers or do I have to order here on brightsign.biz? Cn't wait to get my hands on one of these players. You are really bringing up great features, which bringts digital signage truly to a new level.

    Thanks!

I don't have a hard date in December. I think mid-month. Yes, I believe there's supposed to be inventory at the Amsterdam distribution ctr. I don't know which European resellers will be stocked immediately. Like you, I'm sure they want to get units in and testing before committing. I don know a few resellers in Europe were involved in the pre-beta program so they will have seen the units early, but not many.
