Possible to modify location where updates get loaded from?

We would like to update the brightsign device from a POS android computer (Zebra TCxx).  We want a workflow as follows: retail manager downloads signage update, manager reviews and approves update, manager plugs Zebra TCxx into Brightsign (using USB cable), Brightsign updates (as if a USB thumb drive had been inserted).

It appears that the device can only accept an update from a location like \update and that the XML files must be in the root of the drive.  The android internal storage root is not writable (for security reasons), so we want to be able to have the brightsign look in an alternate location, which can be hard coded.

Network/wifi update is not an option for us because the client has a strict policy on connecting signage to the internet or even local network; they want to review all content before it is posted and want to physically control the connection.

From the description it is imply that the Zebra can emulate USB storage for BrightSign. Is that a feature of the Zebra TCxx?

Yes, if you plug in a TCxx into a computer it will show as a new device (e.g. "TC57") - under that is "Device Internal Storage", then all the subfolders.

I created a folder "update" off the root and dumped the XML and pool dir there, but it doesnt work when I plug the TC57 into the XD1033.

    Thanks for clarifying.

The BrightSign player would need to be set up so it looks for updates over USB.

You could baby-step the process by first getting it to update from a physical USB drive.

Ya I did all that - it works fine from USB stick.  I need it to enumerate the TC5x as a USB device and read from its internal storage.

Is there some way in the brightscript to do this?  I saw there was a usb hot plug event and some way to look at the various usb devices.

At this point I'd recommend that you contact support@brightsign.biz.

What I normally look for in these situations are log entries that appear in the DWS UI at the moment USB cable is connected. Such info would be helpful during communication with support.

Sorry that I couldn't be of much help
