Simple File Networking issues XD1230

Hello again!

So now I am trying to set up a unit with Simple file networking enabled, at my bosses request, instead of publishing directly to the unit itself.

I followed the steps in the setup here

http://support.brightsign.biz/hc/en-us/articles/218066047-How-to-Simple-File-Networking-setup

and found this article

http://support.brightsign.biz/hc/en-us/articles/218067517-Simple-File-Network-updates-aren-t-working-

and I can access the 3 files listed to try through my web browser.

current-sync.xml

autorun.brs

pool/sha1-6963EC2B20954C48716E9CEF96FC11F53DA3BBAA (mine is different, but got it from the XML file)

Everytime I plug the SD into the unit, and it sets up, it reboots, after flashing the Err Icon red 10 times, 3 times in a row, and then reboots once again. The Brightsign logo comes up for a split second, then goes off right before the LED starts to flash.

I cannot see anything in the log file that tells me anything failed except a usb error

mount: mounting usbfs on /proc/bus/usb failed: No such file or directory

Is there another troubleshooter I missed somewhere?

Thank you

I got the Red Light to stop flashing, by re doing the firmware update, even though it was already updated.

I am just getting a black screen now, and there are no errors in the log files.

L=d T=2017/03/24 06:50:00.338 I=1015 D=http://websiteaddressremovedforsecurity/current-sync.xml is the only thing in the current log, repeated over and over again.  Nothing is in the logs folder and nothing in archived logs.

Files are all located on the same network as well... So FTP shouldn't be needed.

I have removed the files and created new test presentation to try and nothing still. same black screen, but it is giving output because the monitor is on. Just a blank screen.

Make sure that you can access the xml with a web browser, that is on the same network segment as your players.

    http://websiteaddressremovedforsecurity/current-sync.xml

Once it opens in the web browser, verify that other links in the xml are accessible from the web browser too.

Can you share your xml here?

I can access that file,. as well as the Autorun and the pool/ sha file listed in the troubleshooting article.

I cannot share the XML file because it is internal only, and I am on a govt. connection. However, like I said, I can reach the files perfectly from the browser, and I published the project to the folder from BA.  Am I supposed to remove the SD card after setup?

I am not really sure what additional features, etc. this gives me over publishing right to the card, but my boss seems to think it is supposed to be so you can remove the SD card for security reasons...

Like I said, the log file was filled with

L=d T=2017/03/24 06:50:00.338 I=1015 D=http://websiteaddressremovedforsecurity/current-sync.xml  over and over again, but no failures, and nothing in the other 2 log folders on the SD card.

I asked Support to look into it as well, but have not heard anything yet.

First, SD card must remain in the player!

Your published content is stored on the SD card.

For security, you may what to consider using the internal micrSD card.

If you flip over the player, you should see a small cover that can be removed, to expose the internal micrSD.

Before you do, troubleshoot with the cards that you are using now.

Do not remove SD cards after setup.

If all players are on the same network segment, as well as your computer, you may find Local File Networking more suitable.

It provides better functionality generally speaking, and better support from BrightSign.

If a large number of players is planned, the BrightSign Network Enterprise should be considered instead.

    I hope that helped.

There is no internal micro SD card.

I removed the cover and there is nothing in the slot! Maybe that is my issue.

I need to find a better explanation of what the differences are between the Simple, and local file networking are. Every time I explain something I learn, he swears it is supposed to work other ways....

I think I convinced them to use the one I have working. On to the next project..

    Thanks

    Forget the microSD for now.

Start by setting up a player for your Simple File Networking.

Start simple: try to show a single jpg on the screen, and walk your way up from there.

If applicable, best is to have everything working on your bench, before putting a player in a network that you have no control of.

There many things that can go wrong, so start simple.

SD card, must stay in the player after setup! Be it the external SD, or the internal microSD.

The most common problem with simple networking is that mime types aren't setup properly on the server. Can you send us the autorun.brs on the sd card? That would tell us if the player's downloading the autorun from the web folder, or still has the initial setup autorun.

If a playback autorun is on the sd card, then we know it's downloading what you published. There should be a log file in the root of the sd card with output from the download if logging's enabled.

At first they thought that they need to eject the SD card right after player setup...

    For security.
