"on" command issues

We have an HD223 unit connected via HDMI to a Peerless display. Zone 1 displays advertisements. Zone 2 contains an event handler scheduled to turn the display on and off with the facilities hours of operation. The "on" command is not turning the display on in the morning, but if we manually turn it on, the off command works at the end of the day. 

This is probably something we're doing incorrectly or something we're missing, but it's been about a week and we can't figure it out. It needs figured out asap as we sell ad space on the unit.

    Also, is an event handler the best way to do this? Since the event handler is in Zone 2, do I somehow need to link it to Zone 1? I think it's setup correctly since the "off" command works.

    Let me take a look at the manual.

    What is the site schedule for display ON/OFF?

    Are your players managed through BrightSign Network?

    Do the players have access to an NTP server for clock sync?

    I would need more information, as things don't add up.

    The Peerless manual is showing that display can be controlled over RS232, but the player doesn't have a serial port, nor USB.

    How are you controlling the display power?

    The NOSIGNAL SHUT is interesting. You could program the player to turn off/on its video signal on a schedule, with the Video commands:

    "Enable monitor power save mode"

    "Disable monitor power save mode"

    The display may go into standby upon signal off, and turn or upon signal resume.

     

    You could make this problem go away, or at least buy some time by setting the display to wake up at a certain time...

    It is programmed to turn on and off with the shopping center hours. M-Sat are the same, Sunday hours are different. 

    It is not managed through the brightsign network. Unfortunately everything has to be done on location. I don't think there is access to NTP, but I remember seeing something in brightauthor that is set to eastern standard time which is correct. 

    I think it's all controlled via HDMI? 

    I'm confused regarding the nosignal shut - is this through the peerless display. 

    Is there a way I could send you the the brightauthor file? One thing their support team is looking into, perhaps the "on" command code is not correct, but the "off" command is? which could explain why it turns off correctly but needs to be turned on manually.

    Just sent the email. Yes, power was shut off for about 5 days.

    As I'm reading support docs, in the event handler, it's set as "send" under command type. Is this correct or should it be a BrightControl?

    Also, I emailed the engineer who set this up originally asking where the eventhandler command numbers came from. The Peerless manual references 51/52 for on/off serial command, the current brightauthor setting ends in 81/82. Not sure if this could be part of the problem?

    If you are trying to turn the display on over HDMI CEC, then it would be under BrightControl.

    A command can be sent for any BrightAuthor state, such as the Event Handler.

    I think you should consider two scenarios:

    1. Power is available all the time, On command would be then sent on a schedule.

    2. Power is lost at night (or at any time for that matter), the On command would be then sent upon presentation start.

     

    The second power on command is important, in the event that power is resumed a little after the On command was scheduled. The scheduled is missed, so the display would stay off the entire day, until the next morning.

    Moreover, the command sent upon power resume, should be carefully timed, making sure that the display is ready to receive the command when it arrives. If the display boot up time is  longer than the player's, the command might be sent before the display is ready to receive it, and the display would stay off.

    If the On command is sent too soon for the display to respond to it, you should add a delay before the On command is sent.

    The HD223 doesn't have a serial port.

    Please ask the engineer, which model was installed at that location.

    In order to control with RS232, you would need to replace the player with a model such as HD1023.

    Also, power control over HDMI is normally found in consumer grade TVs, and not in commercial displays.

    The Peerless manual does not mention HDMI CEC power control.

    I just asked the engineer these questions. Also, does the event handler need to be linked to the presentation in Zone 1? Or, does the presentation in zone 1 also need to be linked in zone 2?

    Zone 1, and Zone 2 do not need to be connected.

    The separation between the zones, ensures that the video loops without interruptions.

    Ok. Also, the model is hd1023. Does that mean it's correct as a "send" command or should it be changed to "BrightControl?
