Integrating Brightsign players into a custom cms

Dear Brightsign community,

I am planning to integrate Brightsign players in to a custom CMS. They should play a set of images and videos in an endless loop. The content will be changed from time to time with our custom CMS. As far as I understood, I have two possible ways to achieve this.

I could implement a web app or website which takes care of the playback and show this site on the Brightsign player.

The other solution is to write a Brightscript which takes care of updating and downloading the content to the player.

Is there a third solution?
Do I have to consider performance issues while playing back videos from a website?
Is there a simple way to play back files to be found on a web server(URL)?

  Nils,

  There are several approaches under the Brightscript umbrella. You can implement a web app / website viewer directly without needing to create and publish a BrightAuthor project.  Here's a basic example:

  One of the great things about this approach is you have access to a lot of display, cache control and storage mechanisms not exposed in BrightAuthor. You can read more here:

  Another approach is to leverage the "content management" classes (along with the roUrlTransfer class and optionally roHtmlWidget class) for remote content syncing and display. This is a more advanced technique to implement, but it is very powerful and I've used it successfully in the past:

  You can use this approach with non-HTML content, for example, just updating a video file to loop.

  There used to be an excellent CMS Integration Whitepaper floating around that had a detailed technical step-by-step for integrating Brightsigns with any CMS using the above classes, but I can't find it now.
