Which player? Audio Mute? and more...

Hello,

Hoping you all can steer me in the right direction, I am looking to have a player that isn't too complicated, was looking at the 110, but don't think it will do what I need. I am new to digital signage and am a small business owner. I have been driving one of the digital signs using a DVD player and it's worked "ok", and the other using a PC and VLC media player, but VLC crashes after a few hours. Is there any good, inexpensive sign software out there?

Here is what I need the box to do:

1) Loop a list of videos (possibly also photos, but most likely just video clips ~30 seconds, up to 2 minutes in length). Videos can be delivered via any number of means, USB stick, SD card, network, whatever is easiest. The content will not be updated too often.

2) Automatically turn on and off at certain times. If the players automatically start playing when they get power, this could be easily achieved using a timer controlled power outlet.

3) Need it to turn on and play video starting at about 7am and stopping at 5pm, but mute the audio until about 9am as there will be a meeting and having sound would be bad. I do not believe my HDTVs have any sort of audio muting on a timer capabilities.

4) I don't think I'll need any streaming anything... I guess one use could possibly be to after every video or so, read a specific directory over the network and display a random photo. But this isn't high priority.

Thanks!

    1. The HD110 can loop videos, like you describe, playing back from SD or SDHC cards.

    2. You would have to use a timer controlled outlet for this unit  or any unit except the 810, 210, or 1010. Both the 210 and 1010 would require a network connection to maintain their own time, if you didn't have a timer controlled outlet.

    3. If we assume the is powered up at the same time every day, we could add a counter that would turn off audio until 2 hours had passed.

OK, so sounds like I could use the 110 OK then?

    Just to confirm,

When you plug in the 110 to the wall will it automatically start playing?

And with the 110 you can set in the script to not play audio for two hours (or however long)?

    Thanks,

Yes, it plays at startup. And, once it starts, you could start a counter that would count the equivavent of x number of seconds before turning up the audio volume.
