Updates over network

Hello,

I am trying to set up (5) HD 1010s on an internal network and update their content from a computer on the same network. I have followed the instructions in the manual but it is not working. The units do connect to the web and display time and an RSS feed.

Could you please provide some insight on network settings? I am installing this on the existing client's network and need to let their IT contact know how to set up the folder or webserver.

Thanks,
Rob

Which version of brightauthor are you using?

If you open the autorun.brs file on one of the flash cards you published the network setup files top, you can change the "loggingon" variable at the top to "true". Once set to true, the unit will store a log.txt file with any errors it encouners.  This autorun.brs file can be opened with any text editor.

What webserver are you running on the local computer for the Brightsing to connect to?

Can you describe what you put on the flash card, and what you put on the networked folder?

    BrightAuthor 1.0.1.5

I am currently trying the hfs server found on your site which I is working.  Nice!

    My bigger questions are...

Do I need to install this on the client computer and have them run it before making changes to the program with BrightAuthor?

Do you have any configuration guides so I can instead have their IT setup a network folder?  Possibly a shared folder on the "show editing" computer.  This may be easier for the end user but I'm not sure about Domain and permissions issues.

Essentially I need some info to pass on the the IT guys as to what I am going to be putting on their network.

    Thanks Again,

The web update feature only works with a webserver. It won't work with just windows file sharing.

All the unit needs is access to a folder on a webserver that it can access via a URL. That folder should allow guest access. Since it's just an http call, on port 80 if no special port is in the URL, there shouldn't be any domain considerations.
