HD1010 simple update via crossover cable

Is it possible to do a simple update of content by direct connection from pc to HD1010 to avoid constant transfer of the sd card from pc to HD1010 and subsequent waits for it to restart each time. If setting up for a customer it is not always possible to be on a network to do this and can mean a lot of trips up and down a ladder sd card in hand! Regards Andy

    Currently, the brightsign can download content from a webserver. So, you could install a simple file server on your pc, like HFS, and setup a folder for the brightsign to download content from. You could then publish to this folder. This is covered in the brightauthor user's guide.

    We currently plan to release a firmware update that adds a little web server to the brightsign, so you can use brightauthor to publish to units directly on a local network.

    I should be posting this to the script example topic but I saw the discussion about a web server on the HD1010 device. I have an immediate need to push content updates to an HD1010 device without having to create scripts which pull content on a timed basis. Until the web server is ready, is it possible to obtain an example BrightScript which pulls down playlists and content from my own content server?

    I've tried the simple network example but that does not appear to work so I though I could manually create the script to pull down the updates?

    In short, I have an http server which can host the project content files and scripts. say <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://xxx.xxx.xxx/brightsign">http://xxx.xxx.xxx/brightsign</a><!-- m -->

    I would like to have a script that wakes up every minute pulling down all the files and playing the playlists. Eventually, I could add logic to check for file changes but for now I just need a way of pulling content to the device and activating the device to play the changes.

    any help would greatly be appreciated since I need to demonstrate this device to our execs...thx

    It would be easier to try and do this first using simple networking.  I'd recommend you update to firmware 3.2.67. Here are some tips on issues you might run into doing simple networking. The most common problem is that your web server needs to have autorun.brs added as a mime type, for that .brs extension. Plain/text will work for the type.


    And, if you're using ftp to transfer your files to the web server, you must set the ftp program to binary transfer mode.


    You should also verify from a computer that you can access the current-sync.xml file using your web browser. Whatever address you put in BrightAuthor, use ethat in your browser and see if you can open the xml file.

    We should implement HD210, but unfortunately only after hardware delivery we realized that customer corporate IT policy denies webserver usage <!-- s:cry: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_cry.gif" alt=":cry:" title="Crying or Very sad" /><!-- s:cry: -->
    When do you plan to implement solution which allows to push content directly to SD card through Ethernet network?

    Is there any possibility to use simple network shared folder on WinXP based computer?
    I am just looking for content upgrade solutions without webserver. Except manual SD card replacement method  <!-- s:) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!-- s:) -->

    Windows shares are not supported.

    When BrightAuthor 2.1 is available, you'll be abloe to publish directly to units on a local  network. That's currently set for q2 release.
