How to crop 720p on the HD1010 using a 4:3 monitor

Hello:
We've got a BrightSign HD1010 that we want to use to display MPEG2 video on an ELO screen at 1024x768. Our MPEG2 video is currently at 640x480p.

Rather than have the HD1010 scale the 480p video to fill the 1024x768 VGA ELO screen, we'd like to recompress our 480p video to 1280x720p "pillarbox" and have the HD1010 merely crop the pillars. I think we'll get better quality video if we recompress to 720p rather than have the HD1010 scale it up on-the-fly.

I thought the IMAGEMODE and VIEWMODE playlist options would help us to do that, but they don't seem to crop the 720p video.

Can you help me?

The unit scales up better than it scales down.  Are you starting with source video that's higher than 640x480 when you create the 720p video?

The video mode setting controls whether the content is centered and letterboxed, or scaled to fill. You can have it center the 640x480 video.  Maybe, I don't understand what you are trying to do.
