HD410 Controlling 6 Video files with 4 Buttons

I have a project in that I have three short videos that are controlled by three buttons. I have a fourth button for activating closed captioning. For this I have created 3 video files with the captions burned into the video content. Thus, video 1 is the same as video 4 (with captions), Video 2 corresponds to video 5 (with captions), and Video 3 corresponds to Video 6 (with captions). Thus, I am having trouble (with brightauthor) coming up with a configuration that allows me to use the same three buttons to activate both the normal videos and the corresponding closed captioned videos with the addition of pressing a closed caption button. Perhaps this cannot be done with brightauthor and needs to be a script? If so, I have no experience with the scripting. Please help.

You can definitely do this. Whether it requires customization depends on how you want the the unit to respond when you press the captioning button.

If you press button 4, and some content is currently playing, what's supposed to happen? Do you return to the menu? Is there a menu to choose from? If there's a menu to return to, then what we could do is have two copies of the menu file in your project.

When button 4 is pressed, we go to the captioned menu where buttons 1 -3 play the caption files. If button 4 is pressed again you go back to the first menu where buttons 1-3 play the non captioned file.

Do you have a sample brightauthor project you can send me at support@brightsign.biz ?

The AV configuration has a back lighted push button Station which serves as the menu.  The first three buttons active three named programs.  The fourth button is for enabling closed captioning.  I don't have a programmed memu that comes up on screen.

Right now I have it running so that program 1-3 will run and return to blank screen.  While running button 4 is inactive.  When you push button 4 it activates a timer which gives you 10 seconds to select program 1-3.  When button 4 is pushed a message (image slide) appears that says "Closed Captioning Activated, Please Choose Program"  If you push one of the program buttons the closed caption versions of programs 1-3 are played.  When that ends it returns to blank screen.

This works pretty well, but in addition to what we have programed, I could see the advantage of interupting the playing of the the normal program to switch to the closed caption version.  Perhaps after a normal program start, button 4 press stops program, displays screen to allow you to select program start with closed captioning.  Since the programs are small (less than 5 minutes) this would be a good addition to what we have.

I will send you the file.
