Screen layout capabilities

I am beginning an evaluation of the Roku BrightSign players for a major client. My background is both programming and commercial television broadcast engineering.

This is my question: is it possible to script a page to define sectors in which a different activity is carried out concurrently? For example dividing a screen into 4 quadrants and playing a video at top left quadrant while playing a graphics slide show in the second. And scrolling text right to left or left to right at the bottom of the screen? While the fourth displays a static graphic?

With the Brightsign HD2000, you can define zones in the latest beta software. You could define 4 zones as you describe.

There can only be one video zone, but you can use as many image zones as you want. The text currently comes in one of two ways. It types in from left to right in either the text zone or rss zone, or it appear all at once. The text doesn't slide in like a marquee. I can check if this is functionality that can be added in the future.

In addition to these zone types, you can also add a clock/date zone where you can show the time or date, and you can make this zone transparent so it can sit on top of another zone. So, your video window could show a video, with the time overlayed.

If you would like to try the beta, email me at lallydice@rokulabs.com.

Does Roku consider a graphic slide show as equivalent to a video zone?

    No.

You can have a slideshow in the main video zone along with your videos, in addition to independent slideshows in the different video zones.
