HD1010 -- Shell

I've received my HD1010 and so far I am impressed with the video quality at this price point. I am looking to delve further than just autoplaying media from a compact card. I understand that a terminal is available through serial communication via null modem cable. However, I am doing most of my work on mac and though I have a pc handy as well, I'd like to have the ability to get to the box remotely and with my mac as well as to examine the machine via the linux shell. Is there a way to emulate the roku shell via ethernet? Can I telnet in to the box? SSH?

The box doesn't currently support telnet, but we are investigating.

What kinds of commands or interactions do you want to have with the unit remote?

With interactive playlists you can send strings over serial or UDP, and the unit can play content based on the strings sent.

For more flexibility, you can use  a custom script on the brightsign to listen for commands over serial or udp. I can send you examples of what the interactive playlist would look like.

I can also send you a sample control script you can use to sending play, stop, loop, and search commands for controlling video playback. Anything that the brighsign can do can be remotely.

I'd like to be able to replace the use of a serial terminal emulator with commands issued via ssh or something, wht you describe above seems close.
