HD210 Output Suddenly Goes Black

Hello, We have 3 synchronized Brighsign units running the animated background on our TV news set - 1 HD101 (master) + 2 HD210 (slaves). We have our cards authored with GPI functionality - so that we can use a button box to recall different video loops on the fly. They work exactly how they should, and will loop seamlessly for days - except one problem: Occasionally, one of the HD210 units goes black with no video running through the output. To restore the loop, we press the GPI button for an alternate video file - and all 3 units restart in sync and stay in sync indefinitley. Until it happens again hours / days later. Assuming everything is working correctly for hours / days - and we randomly have 1 unit lose output until we restart it - can we assume we have a defective unit? I would understand if it was consistent, but it is so random, and there is nothing changing in the setup or wiring. Thanks, Angelo News 12 NJ

Ok, so the unit isn't rebooting. And, the display, does it say it's lost sync? But, picking a different video always fixes it?

It almost sounds like a content problem beyond the fact that it's so random.

What flash cards and sizes are you using?
Do you know what firmware is on the units? We have made a number of changes to video player so if this is a content issue, we might have implemented a workaround to address it.

Are these mpeg2 files, or h.264? H.264 files require more system resources to playback. Send me an email at support@brightsign.biz, and I'll send you a link to newer firmware to try.

Has this problem existed from the first setup? The brightsigns are directly connected to the display, or through some distribution amp?

hi Lyndon,

I'm playing h264 (15Mb constant bit rate) FULL HD videofiles 26/7 and I also see sometimes some black output for 2 or 3 seconds

I use 2x HD210 players (Version 3.2.67) in sync

flashcards are from sandisk (SanDisk Extreme® HD Video SDHC™ Cards, 20MB/sec read/write speeds)
- EXT3 formatted
- duration movies: 90 minutes (12GB)

Would the new (beta?) firmware also help me solving my problem with the black output?
If yes, can you also send me the new firmware?

Thanks in advance

How often do you see the black output? Is it random, or in the same place in the video? Given the length of the video, it appears hard to verify where this is happening.

Hi Lyndon,

I'll try the new firmware.
The black spots appear randomly for about 1 to 3 seconds

best regards,

Oskar

So, ext3 looks good. WE just haven't tested as much as FAT.

hi lyndon,

The new firmware (3.3.70) is not working:
- the movie on the slave unit is just playing about 1 minute, then it restarts from the beginning
- master / slave totally out of sync (from the beginning 2 sec difference)

I am gonna flash the last fimware ( Version 3.2.67)

Ok, then there's something else going on here. There are customers with hundreds of units deployed with that firmware, and I've used it for sync with no problems.

Given the size of the files, let me check if there's our developers have any suggestions given the limited amount of information about the content. What program did you use the create the files? Can you send the output settings used to generate the videos? Please send to support@brightsign.biz.
