Hi folks,
I want to know if there's a way to better way to do this:
We display a looping video between 7am and 6pm every weekday in our foyer. At 6:55 a presentation runs that simply switches off Brightsign's sleep-mode (so the TV wakes up), at 7am a presentation runs the video until 6pm. Then finally a third presentation runs that re-enables Brightsign's sleep-mode. (I use 'Simple File Networking')
I have saved the schedule for these three presentations, which is a very simple, unending weekday recurrence for each presentation.
So far so good; the Brightsign and Tv behave exactly as they should.
I often get asked to replace the video on any given day with a welcome-slide for a conference etc. and my problem is that when I drag the slide presentation onto the required time slot, I have to blow away my recurring schedules where there is a conflict and set up complicated multiple schedules for multiple presentations. Then the next day I have to re-publish the whole thing again, just to revert to my original schedule.
I have used many other scheduling tools - MS Outlook's Calendar springs to mind - where I am given the option to break only this daily occurence in the schedule. That is, the scheduler simply recalculates the start and end times of a recurring schedule to fit around the required conflict.
If I'm missing a better process, then please tell me. Otherwise, could we see this in a forthcoming version of BrightAuthor, please.
PS It would also be very useful to be able to download the currently applied schedule from the Brightsign unit directly into BrightAuthor without having to dig out the location of the current autoschedule.xml hash-named file from the current-sync.xml and downloading/renaming/opening etc etc etc. It's all a lot harder than it needs to be, imo.
