how many key frames for H264?

I'm encoding H264 files in Sorenson Squeeze and I'm just wondering what my keyframe settings should be?  I've had it set for 1 per second and for "set key frame on scene change" at 75 (100 being frequent, 0 being not frequent).

Have you tried the Roku Preset from the Sorenson site?

That helps, but I thought that VBR wasn't supported by the brightsigns (we're using a 110 I believe).

H.264 VBR encoded videos do work on the BrightSigns we have used them wrapped as .mov and .mp4 from various encoding programs handbrake, sorenson, compressor and adobe media encoder.

My personal preference is however CBR purely because we do a lot of synced video and quite frankly SD cards are so damm cheap so size is not an issue but for a simple looping video if you plug it in and it works there is your answer.

As for "key frames" or "reframes" anything over 4 (the average on a h.264 blu-ray disc) is just making hard work for your playback device and will most likely result in stuttered / pixelated playback.

It is also worth noting that if you are using a lot of BrightSigns standardize on a model of SD card for consistent results but always select a class 10 to avoid any unwanted surprises especially if you are using a high bit-rate file.

    Hope that helps.

That's strange because I was encoding VBR and couldn't get them to work so I made another post (this was in July) and got this post from Support:

"The second issue is that VBR is not supported. I'm surprised you have to go that high on the bitrate to get good video output. I've seen vars uses much lower bitrate videos to sell LG HD and 3D tvs."
