Can't connect to 1010w over Local Network

Hi there:

I have a brand new 1010w and I'm trying to configure it for WiFI for a client. I can't publish to it over either ethernet or wifi. It doesn't see the box at the IP it's running at, even though the network diagnostics do.

"Unable to access a brightsign box at that IP address"

I've run the setup files - although BrightAuthor 3.5.0.24 only has setup for a 1010, not a 1010w - and ran the DateTime program overnight. Firmware is 3.10.57.

The diagnostics see the ethernet connection, but not the wifi.  It tells me the password is incorrect, but I've verified it with our IT person. Here's the log:

    Hi Frank,

Did you set the network connection priority to wireless or wired when creating setup files for the unit?

How far away is the unit from the wireless router?

What encryption type is your wifi router set to? Try reconfiguring the router for WPA, and see if it makes a difference.

    How long is the passphrase?

What is the model, brand, and version number of the wireless router you are using?

Reset the unit to factory defaults. See steps in this FAQ: http://support.brightsign.biz/entries/21796878-How-do-I-restore-reset-a-unit-to-Factory-Default-settings-

    Update BrightAuthor to version 3.7.0.31.

Create new setup files from scratch, and test again.

I had just that problem a year ago.

As I remember it, the WPA Key was handled by the 1010W in some strange ways.

Finally cracked it by giving the router and the 1010W a very simple key.

    I used "2DEA122C1D"

    Hope that helps.

We're still not having any luck, but we're just going to take it to the client's site and work with their IT people to get it configured for their system. You may hear back from me in a week or so! ;)

Thanks again for all your help.

@Frank, we are having the same issues with the HD1010W unit.

Running firmware 3.11.11 cannot get local network to connect.

We can ping the unit and access the web interface however brightauthor fails to connect to the brightsign unit.

It is also strange because after it reads the setup off the SDCard you have to manually remove the setup files otherwise the unit doesn't seem to display anything and is stuck in limbo.

We have tried DHCP ON/OFF through a switch, direct from PC to the Unit but are having 0 luck what so ever.

    Standalone mode works though.

    Simon,

Are you doing a wired or wireless setup?

Please send a screenshot of the error that you're getting when trying to add the HD1010w to BrightAuthor.

Is the original setup sd card still in the unit? Did you remove it after setup to publish something directly to the sd card?

Once you setup the unit, it should bootup to a blank screen. From there, you can do the add. If you remove the sd card and put something else on it, then it can't be added any more.

The other issue could be the firewall software on your computer blocking BrightAuthor. Try disabling it, or adding BrightAuthor to your firewall so it's allowed to have incoming and outgoing connections.

Access the diagnostic web server of the player from your web browser by entering the unit's IP address, click on Diagnostics tab, press View under Network Configuration and send a print screen with the Network Configuration results.

Then press Run under Network Diagnostics to run a network test. Send a print screen with the results.
