Alex There are three ways you can do network updates currently.
1. You can setup a unit into the BrightSign network
2. You can setup a unit to connect to a folder on a webserver and get updates published to that folder.
3. Using BrightAuthor 3.x or later, you can setup a BrightSign so BrightAuthor can publish to it directly over a local network.
1. BrightSign Network, Hosted Service - You can setup the unit to connect to our hosted service, to a brightsign network manager account. We can setup a 30-day trial account. Please watch the BrightSign network videos in the tutorial section at www.brightsign.biz

2. Simple Networking ( Web servers) - Use any web server to update BrightSigns remotely. For step by step directions on using Simple Networking:

3. Local Networking
Publish directly to the BrightSign using BrightAuthor. See video below for details.

Mikko Markkanen Let me elaborate a lil' bit.. (I was on my iPhone when I wrote it..)
The scenario is this: I have a customer, who can only run with local networking.
They need to refresh the played images from their server, which needs to be pushed to the unit WITHOUT using BrightAuthor. The images refreshes on the server automatically from Excel.

Alex 1) You can use media rss feed. You can create your own media rss:
- create xml file, place it to your webserver (webfolder) or place it to the public folder on your dropbox account
- in xml file specify path to images which reside in a webfolder (see sample image xml in FAQ)
- specify url to xml file in BrightAuthor presentation (in media rss widget)
- publish presentation to the unit
Then, place new images into a webfolder, edit xml file to tell the unit to download new images. The unit will download and display the updated content. Customer won't use BrightAuthor to update content on the unit.
2) Or you can customize autorun script and tell the unit to download new images from a webfolder automatically. View this FAQ.

Mikko Markkanen Can I play a media rss from a shared folder i.e. \\server\share\feed.xml?
Or is it mandatory for a webserver? Ideal option would be to create a presentation through BA and then have the option for the HD220s to periodically check for updated images.
Can it be done with local network and shared folder?

Lyndon No, the feed has to come from an http url. So, it has to be served via http.
