Scheduling problems

The nitty gritty:

Brightsign hardware - XD1230

BA Version - 3.5.024

Firmware - 4.4.44

I'm trying to schedule a single project to be onscreen during our library's open hours.

When I publish a schedule that is active all the time, I have no issues. But we don't want the screens in use 24/7

When I publish a schedule that includes recurring times, it doesn't seem to work, when I publish the presentation with a schedule, the screens are black.  The box is giving no errors (no red light) so it just appears that the box thinks it's off.

There are three recurring schedule events:

recurring weekly - every sunday - scheduled project presentation 12:30pm to 5:00 pm

recurring every weekday (Monday through Friday) - scheduled presentation 9:30am to 8:00pm

recurring weekly - every Saturday - scheduled project presentation 9:30am to 5:00 pm

The steps I use to create the recurring events is as follows:

1. Drag the presentation from the presentation selection box to a calendar day (let's say Saturday as the example)

2. I double click on the presentation name now that it's on Saturday so the options dialog opens up.

3. I set the time I want the presentation to be running (9:30am to 5pm in this case)

4. I say that it should be a recurring weekly event.  I click on the Saturday radio button as the day, no end date radio button

5. I click on ok,

6. I then do the same process for Sunday weekly recurring event and Monday through Friday recurring weekday event.

7. I save the schedule

8. I publish to my local webfolder, use dreamweaver to upload the modified files to the website that the brightsign box is configured for.

Additional Info:

Our box is getting it's time from nist1-sj.ustiming.org (I know it's working because the clock and date zones on my presentation display the information correctly)

I have saved the schedule using BA and named it libraryopenhours it saves to my project folder.

I publish to my publishing folder as I'm using simple file network, then I use dreamweaver to upload the updated published files (including the /pool/ subfolder)

What am I missing?

Do I also need to place the schedule xml file in my webfolder for the brightsign box to process, or do the current-sync and local-sync files take care of this?

Are there any other necessary files that should be in my webfolder for the schedule to work correctly when published as such?

    Did you publish this project (that is set to play "all day, every day") via Simple File Network or Local Storage? Are you sure that the unit downloaded this project from a web server?

    You can publish a project (via Simple File Network) to empty folder on your PC, and upload all published files to a web folder. You need to upload only those that are generated by BrightAuthor after you click Publish button. No additional files are required. 

    Do you have a diagnostic web server enabled on the brightsign player? If yes, you should be able to log into the player from a web browser using the IP address of the player. Your computer must be on the same local network with the brightsign player in order to access the web interface of the unit.

     In diagnostic web server go to Diagnostics page, press Run under Network Diagnostics to run a network test. Please attach a print screen with the results of the network test to this post.

    - Published the project using simple file networking as stated. - As I mentioned, publishing the same project using active all the time, it downloads to the box and displays / runs the presentation just fine. It's only when I use the schedule that it appears to shut off. i.e. the presentation should be running but the displays show nothing. The box doesn't appear to be in error mode. It's as if it thinks the time is incorrect and by its schedule should be showing nothing. - thanks for the info regarding the needed files, now I can setup my project folders accordingly (project files, assets, publish /upload folders) - I don't have the diagnostic web sever enabled as the unit is in a place that doesn't make it simple to get to and it sits behind a secure city network. The wireless network routes using a different network (public accessible). I will work with our facilities and IT depts. to see if its possible to connect to it somehow. I resent the scheduled project last night again to the box, I will call the facilities later today to see if it started up at the scheduled time and let you know if it was just some fluke or the problem persists.

    Hello,
    I currently have the same problem with a 1030 XD and BrightSign 3.5.0.36. If I publish with all day, every day, there is no problem but if I start to activate certain days, hours, the screen remains black as if there was nothing to see. I work with the local network file. I can not find the solution of this problem in this post. Thank you for your help and best regards. Jérôme

    Hi,

    Please create a presentation that shows the time and date on the screen (add 2 clock zones to a project and drop the time and date widgets to those zones). Publish a project to the XD1030 and check what the time and date are displayed on the screen.

    I'm experiencing the same challenge with scheduling. So I did your suggestion here of putting a clock and date on the screen. The clock shows 88:88 and the Date is just black.

    My players are not in a place that they can connect to the time server right now. Can I set the time manually?

    Also is there a way to change the background color of the clock from black to something else or to allow the background image to show through?

    You can set the time using the script. Refer to this FAQ:

    In BrightAuthor select your Clock zone, click on Zone Properties and specify the background color. You can also set the clock to be 100% transparent. Transparency will work over videos and image (if the image is located in the Background Image zone).

    Thanks. I was able to set the time. The only thing I can't get right now is the AM or PM. The autoplay.bsp file has this line 

    TimeZone CET

    SETDATETIME 2010/03/17 09:08

     

    and I don't know the correct way to assign PM.

    I have tried this

    and it didn't seem to work correctly. It still showed AM on the screen.

    You can customize the Clock view in BrightAuthor by going to Edit - Preferences - Clock and clicking on Customize. Be aware that Edit - Preferences are global settings and only apply to new projects. It wouldn't change a project you already created.

    Just wanted to say thanks for the suggestion to launch the clock/date presentation. We were experiencing the same problem with 4 of our 8 units and tried everything. When we did this, we also got 88:88 with no date. We discovered that they were running in the year 1999 or 2000! We are now able to send scheduled projects to all of our players.
