Is there a way I can alternate between these two states:
State A: Full screen background image with two live text zones
State B: Full screen video
I must use live text zones because the text needs to be customized frequently by a receptionist without using a graphic.

Yes you can! Add a second live Text widget with nothing inside it (call it "Clear" or "Blank") and use zone messaging (Zone Message) to move to the Blank Live Text widget to clear it from the screen when transitioning to the video state. you would use the same principle to display that Live text back on screen.

Currently, there aren't transitions for brightsign text widgets.
I'm having a problem with your recommendation for using a LiveText widget. BrightAuthor will not let me use the Link Zones event to transition to a LiveText widget. BrightAuthor reports "This event is only supported when the target is an Image or a Video."
use the zone message command instead. You can send zone messages, and listen for zone message events like you can with link zones.
