HTML5 choppy...

Hi!

I think I have tried everything to get a smooth animation or transition in HTML5 on the XD. Im starting to think it is impossible to get good looking content that is not static on Brightsign using HTML5.

What I want is to do a simple transition between two images. It is super smooth on every computer I've tried, even on iOS and Android units (tried on Samsung Galaxy Tab 2) and it is very fluid. But on Brightsign it is really choppy. Check it out here: http://goo.gl/NYSXQU to see the slideshow.

If someone can get a working slideshow running in HTML5 on Brightsign as smooth as when you do transitions between images inside of BrightAuthor (not using HTML5), please let me know how you do it! I have tried several jQuery libraries and pure webkit CSS animations with no luck. It feels like Brightsign XD can't get over like 10-12 fps when it comes to animations.

    I wonder if this is related to a similar issue I ran into?

    I have a client in which I am doing a weather radar loop in HTML5 on the XD.

    It had been working fine, until the updated to a more recent version of firmware,  Then it became all choppy, and was using up significant bandwidth.

    Something changed, BrightSign says it has to do with webkit changes, in which they say images need to get the "expires" server header for images now, otherwise the player will not cache the images, but download them as new each time they are displayed.

    An easy way to check is look at the Ethernet Port traffic LED on the XD player. Is it continuously blinking while the player is displaying the content you showed above? If so, then the images are not being cached. You could also try using an older version of BrightAuthor and a Firmware version 4.6 I think, and see if it plays normally.

    I don't know if this is the situation with your content, but it is something to check.

    John, I have checked the issues you describe and it doesn't seem to be the problem for me. This occurs even though I pushed the html and all images to the local stoare of the player from inside of BrightAuthor.

    The following recommendation is from one of my colleagues that looked at your html code:

    Please use webkit animation instead of transition:opacity. Use –webkit-opacity: with keyframes

    Bob:

    I have Servers in Atlanta that host all my weather feeds for clients (Apache 2.4.7 - Ubuntu 14.04).  I have a ongoing ticket with BrightSign Support about this, still have not found a solution as to how to get the XD players to properly cache images while using HTML5 like they used to, except to use the older firmware. This doesn't seem to effect Media RSS caching, at this time.

    Hello,

    I found this posting after running into similar issues running a scrolling list in an HTML5 zone. First I was using jQuery.animate(), which was a bit choppy on the BrightSign. I then attempted CSS animations, and these are MUCH WORSE. Of course, in both cases, the animation is perfect in Chrome on my Mac or PC. 

    Any reason why? What kind of RAM do these things have anyway? Kinda silly they can't handle a simple HTML5 animation... nothing particularly complex about what I'm trying. 

    How do you revert to previous versions of firmware? The download page for legacy downloads doesn't list any XD firmware. The model XD1030 is what I'm using.

    I love BrightSigns & BrightAuthor, but am kinda perplexed they can't do these things.
