We have a mimo-monitor running brightsign MODEL HS123 (used as a simple menu) and connected to XD233 via ethernet which plays videos - (used as master/slave setup for a menu system). The Mimo HS123 sends UDP commands to XD233 and plays a selected video, etc. This has been working for the last 6+ years perfectly. Lately the SD cards went bad on both devices so I republished new SD cards. Everything fires up as normal, however, now our UDP commands from the Mimo is not talking back and forth - and videos are now not playing when users clicks a button to send UDP command. Any thoughts what is happening? we haven't changed anything in both of the BrightAuthor files. Ethernet cable went bad? Factory reset on both brightsign players? any ideas would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! - Jody

Mark Richards If you dont have a network link to the brightsign, the network lights on the NIC will remain off. Can you ping the brightsign/access its diagnostic web page(if enabled)?
Odds are its a configuration issue at one end. Most likely the IP settings or UDP port configuration. I would start by investigating the UDP link for both bits of kit.Is the IP address and UDP port used by both devices configured correctly?
Get in between with a laptop running sometihng like hercules:
I.e: Unplug the brightsign network lead and plug it into your laptop. Set the laptiop IP address to that of the brightsign and run up hercules. On the UDP tab, set the module IP to the mimo and set the send and recieve port as the mimo is expecting. Hit "Listen".
Do you see the UDP packets coming from the mimo?
Does mimo respond to UDP packets sent from hercules? Now try the other way round. Set the laptop IP to that of the mimo. Hercules module IP to that of the brightsign.
Can you see UDP packets from the brightsign?

Jody Thank you Mark!
Will try to troubleshoot using your suggested method.
One thing - the devices no longer show an IP address on boot like they used to...
I don't recall of ever assigning IP addresses to each unit - all I did was set UDP ports to 5000 via ethernet and it worked like a charm. When just connecting two device via ethernet, shouldn't the stand-alone publish settings work? Or am I missing something?
We did swap and old HD233 for a XD233 and I updated the player in BA and republished the SD card. Could that be an issue? we are using a POE as well...Thanks!

Mark Richards The IP addressing should be held in the brightsgin not in the project on the SD card.
You can set this through brightsuthor but creating the setup files:
Tools > Setup brightsgin unit > advanced network setup > wired tab.
If the brightsgin is setup with an IP address and you dont know what it is. Power it up without an SD card in it and it should tell you the IP addres under the Brightsgin logo. Make a lote of it, them power it back up with the SD card in.
Use this IP addres and the UDP port from your project.

Jody Ok thanks!
What is odd is I have never had to assign IP addresses to projects (via Bright Author) in this type of peer-to-peer setup, which I have done numerous times. They basically worked when setting UDP ports to 5000.
Did something change with the firmware that requires this now? -
Jody Quick question - so in theory, if the NIC light is off when the two devices are connected, would that indicate either the ethernet or POE cable is bad (we replaced with new ones and still no communication) OR that the devices IP addresses are not communicating? How would we reset the devices IP addresses? would factory reset do this? thanks again!

Jody Update on network test: Neither of the units comes up with an IP address. We ran a packet capture last week and see the Mimo shouting UDP packets but they don't seem to communicate with the XD or HD units. -
Jody I am not at device - but my tech says both units do not display IP address on bootup (without SD card). Just Model/Version/serial number. Does that sound odd to you? Could both units network cards be fried by chance?
