HD1022 Replacement and questions about hardware

Hello,

we plan to replace several defective HD1022 with HD5. There were a maximum of four buttons per media station, where visitors could play photos and videos and navigate through the menu. Nothing particularly difficult/special.

Questions:

1.) The HD5 should be a suitable replacement; it has a 3.5mm jack, HDMI, and GPIO pins. Video and forums are no problem anyway.

2.) The HD1022 had a DA15 GPIO connector, and the HD5 had a Phoenix. We wouldn't want to solder a different connector for the buttons? Are there adapters available for this case?

3.) The HD1022 used an SD card for the OS/project. The media stations are brutally turned off every day (with the main fuse removed) and receive power when the lights come on (with a single circuit). This isn't exactly ideal for SD cards... What other options are recommended in this case? An external hard drive connected to the USB port.

4.) Are there any restrictions regarding the BrightAuthor software? It's still free, and I can install it on a Windows PC without user registration, create projects, and export them to a storage device, which I then connect to the HD5.

5.) We also have an old computer with a touchscreen monitor. Users select a button on the screen on a 6x6 grid, and a slideshow simply plays. Would this also be possible with a BrightSign player?

Greetings

    Hello MrWase,

    1) yes, the HD225 should do the job without any question

    2) I am not aware of any adaptor for that, but the Phoenix connectors are with screws. Cut of the wires from the old connector and screw them into your new connector - there shold be no soldering. Just need them in the right place.

    3) we use BrightSign with microSD-cards in museums a lot. They do exacty what you said - just shut down everything. Never had any fail with the cards or the players. This is what the BS players are made for. Just use maybe some cards with a higher standard (like an industrial or for cameras), but we have customers running these players on cheap cards accquired in a supermarket without any problems.

    4) exactly. Everything is free. There is the "old" version Bright Author which still works with the latest models - and there is a new version "BA connected" which gives you the possibility to control the players over the network (if they are connected to the network). I recommend using the BA connected as it is much better to me and gives you a lot of information about the player, but if you know the old version better, it is still available. (BTW: The old presentations are not compatible with the BA connected as they use a different file format)

    5) Sure, the BrightSign 1025 should to the same work (dependig on the perfomance you need, you maybe should get a XD model) but in general, this kind of application is no problem for the players with USB port. You just need an interactive presentation, but I assume you know how that works as you have interactive buttons on your other players.

    Best regards
    Josh
