setting up a new HD 223

 Hello Brightsign community,

I am trying to set up my HD223 and I am having some problems getting started.  

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!!!

Here is the way which I am attempting to use the HD223 player:                        I have two audio tracks. Each track has a button associated with it. When the visitor pushes one of the buttons, the banjo song plays once, and then stops until the button is pushed again. When the visitor pushes the other button, the fiddle song plays once, and then stops until the button is pushed again. Real simple stuff. There is no video associated with my "presentation", audio only. I am not trying to set up, or control anything wirelessly or over any kind of special network. I simply want to put two audio tracks onto the micro SD card and plug the button wires into the GPIO bar and be done with this.

Some questions I have, based on my little experience with media players:

*Is BrightAuthor the only way to get files onto the SD card, so that the player will understand, read and execute the button play functionality? and if yes, does the micro SD card need to be in the player, or the computer where the audio files are located?

*I cannot tell if the computer is discovering the player or not.. how can I tell?

*Does the audio file name need to be something special like audio 1 / audio 2, or A, B?

*Will the player add it's own files to that SD card, to make all that work?

*Does there need to be an "attract" file on there? ( I am actually not really clear about what an attract file is or why it is needed on other players we have in use..)

Again, any assistance would be very much appreciated!!

  In the simplest terms, yes BrightAuthor is needed.  It is possible to write some custom scripts to put on the card with the content so that the player knows what to do, but this can get complicated and most people just use BrightAuthor for most things.

  The completed project in BrightAuthor can save the needed config and asset files to a SD card in the computer, that can then be put in the player, and the player then powered to run.

   

   

  *I cannot tell if the computer is discovering the player or not.. how can I tell?

  The computer will not see the player, unless the player is connected to the same network, Apple Bonjour is installed on the PC, and a setup file set has been created for the player, and the setup file set loaded on a SD card and placed in the player and the player booted to config from this setup file.  For simple projects you do not need to do this, you can just publish to Local Storage as a Standalone unit.

   

   

  *Does the audio file name need to be something special like audio 1 / audio 2, or A, B?

  The audio files can be named however you want, BrightAuthor will actually give them a unique name for the Presentation file set that you load onto the SD Card.

   

  *Will the player add it's own files to that SD card, to make all that work?

  BrightAuthor will create the file set that will be placed on the SD Card for it to work.

   

  *Does there need to be an "attract" file on there? ( I am actually not really clear about what an attract file is or why it is needed on other players we have in use..)

  You do not need an attract file.  In some interactive cases, there is a video or audio loop that runs to "attract" people to the display, where they then interact by pressing buttons, touching a touchscreen display, etc.  Some cases you do not want this, for example it might be a GPIO floor sensor that triggers a scary sound or video to surprise the person, so you don't want anything to happen until they step on the floor sensor.

   

  I hope this helps, BrightAuthor can be intimidating, but it is really fairly simple once you understand it.

  For you 2 audio file example, with 2 GPIO button triggers, it could be as simple as this in BrightAuthor:

   

  

  The Event Handler is just a placeholder for what to do when the player boots up. It will then wait for either GPIO 1 or GPIO 2 buttons to be pressed. If either one of those is pressed, the linked audio file will play once, the Media Ends on each audio file tell them to go back to the Event Handler when the Audio File has finished playing completely, and the process starts all over again.

  this is really helping so far, and i appreciate it JohnLBV!! 

  i have managed to get the event handler on the screen now, but i have not figured out to assign the audio to the specific buttons.

  i was able to get the player to play one of the tracks, but on a loop. the 2nd track never played, even though it was copied onto the card.

  i am still working on it and thanks for your help!!

  See the 0 1 2 3 4 buttons at the top of the Playlist screen?  Those are the GPIO's. Click on the 1 button and then mouse click and hold on the bottom of the Event Handler Box and drag to the Audio File you want, and then release the mouse button.

  hey thanks JohnLBV .. i have been able to make some progress, but after the past few hours of trying to make sense of this, i have to go and handle a different task.. 

  i will return to this as soon as possible. thanks for the help so far..

  my set-up issues will have to wait until i have more time to deal with it.

  Hi there,

  So I have been able to get things set up like the diagram shows below, but something is still not quite right..

  What it DOES do:

  Upon inserting the micro SD card into the player, it plays one of the audio tracks, but when I push the button, it stops. Then, after approximately 30 seconds, it begins playing the same one track again, but stops when the button is pushed. So the button stops it, instead of starting it...The opposite of what I need it to do!

  What it DOES NOT do:

  It does not play either track, when either button is pushed, and it never plays the 2nd track.

   

  

  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!

  Sounds like the push buttons are not wired correctly.

  For troubleshooting, unplug the GPIO plug, and power up. See what happens then. Nothing should start to play on its own, without buttons connected.

  If you double click on the GPIO Events, do the settings look like this?

  

  Assuming they do, try what ^UD\_Sheme5h$ suggested, it sounds like you might have buttons wired for Normal Closed instead of Normally Open, or some other wiring issue going on.

  good morning,

  I removed out the GPIO connector and powered on the player - silence, for approx 30 seconds, then track one started and continues to repeat, track one only. (still without the GPIO connector.)

  Next, I will attempt to record my steps while setting up a new presentation in Bright Author, so that I may show it here. Perhaps that will shed some light on what I am doing wrong...

  FILE > new presentation > create > SELECT A TEMPLATE > 2 zone audio > OK

  ZONE 1 > playlist type - interactive 

  ZONE PROPERTIES > audio output > analog stereo > OK

  MEDIA LIBRARY select OTHER tab > select EVENT HANDLER - drag / drop in window

  select audio file 82455848.mp3 > drag / drop in window

  select audio file 44089030.mp3 > drag / drop in window

  select BUTTON 0

  click EVENT HANDLER drag to 82455848.mp3 > (button 0 bubble and arrow appear.)

  click MEDIA END EVENT > select RETURN TO PRIOR STATE > OK

  (end media bubble and arrow appear)

  DOUBLE CLICK end media event bubble > select- transition to new state specify new state > EVENT HANDLER > OK (home bubble appears)

  DOUBLE CLICK button 0 bubble

  trigger event on button = DOWN > press (first touch) > start state : EVENT HANDLER > transition to new state Specify next state = 82455848.mp3> OK

  .........done with button 0..............

  Select button 1

  click EVENT HANDLER drag to 44089030.mp3 (button 1 bubble and arrow appear)

  select MEDIA END EVENT > DOUBLE CLICK end media event bubble > select- transition to new state specify new state > EVENT HANDLER > OK (home bubble appears)

  ..............button 1 is done ........................

  select PUBLISH > SAVE > publish to G:\  select STAND ALONE UNIT > publish

  eject disc G:\ 

  insert micro SD into HD223

  insert (6 slot)  GPIO bar. Slots 1 and 2 are wired for button 0. slots 3 and 4 are wired for button 1

  connect HD223 power cable

  no sound.

  no button response.

  no nothing.

  It looks like you have the GPIO Block Wired incorrectly. 

  It should be like this:

  
  If you wired slots 1 and 2 together on a button, you would just short out the player connecting the Ground to the 3.3V every time you pressed the button, possibly even damaging the players GPIO inputs.

  hi JohnLBV,

  i am having a difficult time understanding your reply, and the diagram.

  assuming that i have my presentation correct in Bright Author... my question about the diagram is:

  if button one = 2 wires - green is the ground and red is active.

  and button two = 2 wires - black is the ground and white is active.

  should the green and black wire both go into slot 1 on the GPIO bar? or slot 1 (green) and slot 7 (black)?

  also, should the red wire go into slot 3 and the white into slot 4? 

  since i am not getting any response now, from the player or the buttons, i cannot tell if i have got the presentation wrong, or if i have already damaged the GPIO inputs, by wiring it wrong previously.
