We are exploring a transition away from our current digital signage product and have purchased a test BrightSign player (still waiting for it to arrive) to learn how to create a presentation that does the same things our current system can do. I am posting this here because I can’t seem to get anyone from the sales team to return emails or phone messages.
Our normal content screen has two scrolls with various RSS feeds at the bottom of the screen, the left 5th of the screen has time/date and agency logos at the top, various messages cycling in the middle, and weather RSS data & graphics at the bottom. The remaining large area of the screen rotates through various fixed announcement graphics, short video sequences, flash content, Twitter feeds, etc.
- Our first requirement is for players to take in web GPI triggers (UDP events) from our Crestron control system to activate full-screen emergency alert signs (there are over 20) along with a banner with scrolling “Real World” or “Exercise” text. Our current system allows all these to be placed in “invisible” layers and they only show themselves when called. While I see that we can call UDP-type events in a much simpler way than our current system I am still unclear how to do this with the Zone model that BrightSign uses. I figure I will need to use an interactive zone of some sort but am also unsure how to do something like hidden zones (sign & scroll) or if I would need to.
- Our 2nd major requirement is to allow adhoc messaging from specific on-site users to be displayed on demand on all players.
- The first is a scroll that appears on screen and covers the two lower scrolls when the users edits and saves a text file on our server.
- The second is to have a full screen slide of text that can appear and cover the entire screen when a user edits and saves a different text file stored on our server.
