firmware 8.0.91 XD1033 player - unable to connect to player after set up with new firmware

UPDATE: Was unable to source the previous firmware 7.0.60, but have found 7.1.95 and all is back up and running again. My finger of blame is pointing to 8.0.91 is the problem with XD1033 players.

Having just updated a test XD1033 player to 8.0.91 and recreated the set-up files I am unable to access its webGUI or connect to it in BrightAuthor. I can however ping it on the IP I configured it to. Has anyone experienced any issues with the new firmware? Didn't realise it was so new or wouldn't have touched it.

  I wonder whether there is a leftover registry entry, that is breaking 8.

  Can you access the test player via serial terminal?

  Support suggested a factory reset. Did that, started again, and now works fine.
