Inherited standalone system. I have no access to the original computer, only SD card. Can I turn the SD data back into an editable program file in Bright Author? Can I recover assets projects and schedules or do I need to start again from scratch?

Ellen261Rister If the BrightSign SD card contains files like .bml, .bpf, or .xml, you might be able to recover the project by renaming and opening them in BrightAuthor. Assets like videos and images are usually recoverable, but full project logic (like schedules or interactive settings) may not be editable unless the original project file was published with those components. If no usable project file is found, you’ll likely need to rebuild the presentation manually using the recovered media. nelnet

Alex Nunez It would be tedious but one thing you can try is make a copy of the entire Pool folder, go into all the its subfolders and rename each file you find by giving it a "txt" extension. Try to open each file with a text editor, when you come across an XML file with the second line starting with <BrightAuthor version="#" ... , that should be the BrightSign Presentation File you are looking for. If you find any files that start with PNG, that might be one of the asset files you might be looking for too, just rename the extension to PNG.

Chris We have made a script for this exact purpose. Put our script in your SD card directory and run it with CMD or Terminal
python brightsign_reconstruct.py
