Trying to send simple ASCII start string (without Carriage Return) to an XD2 player on a USB port using a USB to Serial adapter to trigger video files etc. I can get a file to play substituting a laptop's RS232 output and Terminal Emulator (Hercules), but only if i send a manual carriage return immediately after sending the string. Unfortunately the third-partyt box sending the strings can't seem do send an ascii CR. I've tried setting the Receive EOL in Persentation Properties to both CR, LF and CR+LF but can't get the video to fire from the input device sending the simple word string (which again, cannot send a CR, only a string of ascii characters like START). Thanks for your help, this is making me mental!

Bright Scripters You could set the serial port event to binary instead of ascii which would eliminate the need for CR.

Bytes would then be specified in the BA Serial Input event as comma separated sequence of decimal numbers.
Example:
Ascii: 'play'
Decimal: 112,108,97,121
