Deleting videos that have already been uploaded to player

Is there a way to delete videos that have been uploaded to a player?  I am using local networking and would like to be able to change out the videos.  I'm using BrightAuthor Legacy and a LS424 player.

There are couple of options but I first have to ask for the reason for wanting to do so.

I am creating a video kiosk for a museum.  I want to make it easy to add videos to the SD card.  Mistakes will be made such as adding a bad video, or one that we can't use due to copyright issues.  The card can only hold so much, so I would like to be able to delete the bad videos.

Data Feeds might be an option if you have a place on the network to host a feed.

    Thanks for the response.

Unfortunately, that's not an option.  What I will do is use a high capacity SD card. Hopefully, it won't become a problem.

If you're managing the content in the presentation, meaning the content is

    • individual media states
    • included in a List state
    • included in a Play File or On Demand state
    • from a data feed

then the publish process will remove old unscheduled content as necessary to free space.  Unused items are not proactively deleted to avoid unnecessary card wear.

If you have a plugin that is accepting and playing content in some other manner then there should be some delete procedure alongside the procedure used to add content.

Thanks for responding. This is good information.

The procedure I am proposing is that when we find a new video that we want to include, we would add it to the Play File event.  There are two Play File events.  One of them is for only four videos (4 keys) and the other is for only eight videos (8 keys).  When we add a video to one of these Play Files, we would reassign one of the existing keys to the new video and assign a dummy key to the replaced video, or we might just assign the new video to a dummy key.

If a video in a Play File is not called for to play for some period of time, will the publish process remove the "old unscheduled content"?

It sounds like if we want to remove a video, all we have to do, is to remove it from the Play File and re-publish the presentation.  This solves the issue of possibly overloading the SD card.

The system consists of 2 players.  One is a touchscreen menu player and the other player actually plays the videos.  UDP is used between the two players.

No, it doesn't matter whether the item is played or not, as long as it is referenced in a presentation on the published schedule, even if that presentation is not scheduled for a current/future date, it will be "in use" and not subject to cleanup.

Yes, however, when a new schedule is published, the current schedule remains active until all the content of the new schedule is received by the player.  This means there needs to be enough storage space for the current scheduled content and the new scheduled content (non-duplicated) to coexist simultaneously.  A workaround is to publish a schedule update containing a small amount of content (still image, short video) to make the old schedule no longer in use, then publish the new schedule with new content.
