GPIO input - voltage, amperage, wire's length

I want to use a GPIO as an input. As far as I understand when I connect 2 pins (button pin and ground) BrightSign player will acknowledge GPIO input action. The wire that is used to connect two pins will carry 3.3V, 500mA from the player. Is this right?

Now my question is about the wire that can be used to connect those pins. What is the maximum length of a wirethat can be used (one way distance, not a round trip), what wire should I use, what AWG number sholud it be?

Obviously the longer the wire and the bigger the AWG the bigger voltage drop will be. How low the voltage can drop due to these condition to still be recognised by BS player?

Thanks

Please see the hardware spec (it's the same for GPIO on all the models with DA15 connectors, if you have a newer model, please see the appropriate hardware section):
    http://docs.brightsign.biz/display/DOC/4Kx42+Hardware+Interfaces

Inputs can source or sink up to 3.3v 24mA

The larger amperage is ONLY for output on the specific pin.
