EPSON PROJECTOR CONTROL HELP

Hi Guys,

Been beating my head against a wall with this - and searched all forums I can find.

HD1023 Player
3.5mm serial to DB9 cable (tip to Pin 2 (RX) on the PJ, ring to Pin 3, GND to Pin 5)

EPSON Use ASCII "PWR ON" as the on command.

Can someone please confirm;

1. Have you used Epson with RS232 and Brightsign before?
2. Presentation properties - ASCII or Binary Protocol?
3. Presentation properties - if ASCII, send EOL setting?
4. Do I use "Send Serial String (EOL)"? (I have tried this of course)
5. Do I use "Send Serial Byte, Comma Sep" (convert to decimal and tried this)

Is there any help you can offer to definitively say how to talk to the EPSON PJ?

    Allow me to answer my own questions! :-)

    1. Yes, finally working now.

    2. Pres Properties - ASCII
    3. Pres Properties - send EOL setting to CR

    4. "Send Serial Byte, Comma Sep" - convert the ASCII from Epson's guide into Decimal
    BUT THEN
    5. Add another command - "Send Serial String (EOL)" with nothing at all as the command. This will then send a CR to execute the command above

    Works!

    Please be more specific about what you are trying to do.

    It would help if you could provide a download link to your project file.

    What are the hardware pieces that you are using?

    Hi, Thank You for reply

    I saw Jonathan S got it working with EPSON projector.

    So i asked him if its possible to show me the command that he used.

    I have BS 1010 and EPSON projector,i'am trying to POWER ON and OFF over RS232.

    Hi Michael,

     

    This is how I read Jonathan's solution

    Confirm the Baud Rate matches your projector's settings

    Use the following two commands to send the PWR ON command to the projector

    The HD1010 is a legacy product, which is compatible with BrightAuthor 3.8.0.41 Official Release - Nov 14, 2014.

    The screen shots I've included, are from a more recent version of BrightAuthor...

    Let us know how that went.

    Command for the Power Off will be the same? Or the second number will be 88?

    My problem is not the convertion) i just cannot find the command
    All i see is PWR ON and PWR OFF

    It is not clear to me what it is that you are seeing.

    Please include a screenshot.

    A picture is worth a thousand words... :)

    Also, which projector model are you using?

    My projector is EPSON EB-G6370

    In the manual there is a commands PWR ON and PWR OFF (i have tried and they not working)

    This is not the first time i'am controlling something from the BS with serial.

    In this case i cannot understand the commands i need to use.

    I have tried to send them with IP using some plugin for BS that i found on the forums and nothing.

    Which BrightSign model are you using?

    Does it have a built-in serial port?

    Are you using a USB to Serial adapter. If yes, then which model?

    Serial cables can be straight-through, or cross-over (Null-Modem).

    Which are you using?

    I usually start such process, by connecting a laptop via RS232 to the projector, and use putty.exe to confirm basic communication with the projector. Have you done a test like that?

    Yes,i did,but i think my problem is the command,i dont think i can send PWR ON

    Lets try and baby-step that.

    While connected from putty, if you hit Enter, does the projector returns the colon character?

    I'am not next to the projector right now.
    But may be the problem that i'am using wrong rs232 type
    I will check that later.

    Hi Michael ,

    don't know if you have solved that problem i also have similar problem of turning the projector on and off with USB switch to rs232 but it doesn't work

    If you add the number 13 to the serial bytes then you don't have add the "send serial string" for the carriage return.

    power on is 80,87,82,32,79,78,13

    power off is 80,87,82,32,79,70,70,13
