Help ! The brightsign player is eating my bandwidth !

I have a Brightsign XD230 player which is continuously displaying live information from several basic webpages.   It usually consumes about 500MB in bandwidth from our webhost a month.   Something has happened and it is now using 1.5GB a day !

Could it be a caching issue within the player ?   Or does anyone have any ideas as to what I can check or change ?

Thanks

You could check the player's log and look for interrupted downloads.

It is possible that downloads take several attempts, until files get fully downloaded.

Could be a faulty SD or one that got full.

Is the content showing as it should?

Hard to tell with so little information about the application.

Can you share a link to the BA presentation, so we can take a closer look?

    Hi,

Thanks for your reply.   Here are some responses :

You could check the player's log and look for interrupted downloads.   Not sure how to do that exactly, but will look into it.

It is possible that downloads take several attempts, until files get fully downloaded.   The webpages are very basic text so usually load very quickly.

Could be a faulty SD or one that got full.   The SD card is high quality and hasn't provided any issues to date.   I'm guessing that perhaps if the Brightsign player is storing many multiples of the webpages onto the SD card, and it's now full.   I'll try to check that also.

Is the content showing as it should?     Yes, I believe that the content is still being displayed correctly.

The player is at a customer's venue, so I will need to visit and take a look at what's happening with the actual Brightsign player.   The webpages have data within them that changes semi-regularly, so I'm guessing that the Brightsign player counts each webpage loading where content is different (even slightly) as a new webpage, and then caches it as well.

Anyway, hope to sort things out with this soon.
    Thanks !

    Hi,

As a quick update (for anyone that's interested) ... I visited the location today, checked the SD card, and it wasn't anywhere near full.

After searching around to try and discover what the issue is, I concluded that simply switching the Brightsign player off and then back on again seems to have resolved the problem ... or at least that's how it looks at this stage.   I'll see how much bandwidth is being chewed up over the next few days.
