We have HD223 Player

Our video is with 5.1 surround sound format.

Will the player play this audio through 3.5mm audio jack out?

    As SPDIF optical (mini TOSlink) in SPDIF Pass through mode, Yes.
    As analog stereo (stereo mini plug), No, since the player can't decode it.

    Do you mean that connect mini TOSlink to 3.5mm audio jack and configure player in pass through mode?

    Yes, SPDIF output in Pass through mode must be enabled in the Zone Properties
