SOLVED! LS425 / WD-105 not connecting to WIFI network with WPA1 enabled

We have five LS425 devices with WD-105 WIFI antennas in a location along with 8 touchscreens with BrightSign SoC HS124 with WD-104 WIFI antennas.

The HS124 devices (8.5.36) connect perfectly fine to the same WIFI in the location.

The LS425 devices (9.0.101) do not see the network at all.  If I create a mobile hotspot with my Windows 11 laptop and use the exact same SSID credentials/password on the 2.4GHz network then they connect up right away.  I can see the location's WIFI SSID just fine with my phone and laptop so we know it's broadcasting in the area.

I saw another post on the forum that mentioned that they had to force retrograde their LS425 series players to the 9.0.75 version of the firmware in order to resolve the WIFI issues.  Is anyone else having issues with the Series 5 players on .101 firmware not connecting to WIFI?

Cheers,
Monica

    UPDATE!!   Mystery Solved!

I am working through troubleshooting with BrightSign Support.  Here is what we discovered thus far.  It's not the LS425 directly.  It's the WD-105 antennas.  They currently DO NOT CONNECT to a network that has both WPA1 and WPA2 enabled.  If your WD-105, series 5 BrightSign is refusing to connect to your local WIFI SSID, confirm that the WIFI router / access point does not have WPA1 enabled.  It may just call it "WPA".  On my router it said "WPA Personal / WPA2 Personal".  I switched to just "WPA2 Personal" and the devices immediately connected.

    Cheers,

As a follow up to this, it looks like the firmware version 9.0.120 (December 2023) has fixed this bug:

    • OS-15346: (Series 5) Fixed an issue where players would be unable to connect to WiFi APs using WPA/WPA2 mixed mode.
