Video freezes momentarily when transitioning to another video

XT1144

Im using two XT1144 units with synchronisation to play a video file at 2880x 900. I've encode h265 422 8bps 60fps at 30mbps (and tried higher bitrates and h264). Using Bright Author connected (latest build and os).

SanDisk Extreme 32GB SDHC Memory Card (100mbps)

I use the media end event to send a link > synchronise command to my follower presentation.  It feels like the videos are at least a frame out of sync with this feature, and every other sync feature ive tried, including UDP. But the real problem is that at the end of the video, the system seems to freeze for a quarter of a second while loading the next video. Doesnt matter if the next video is the same video file or another completely different video.

Surely this isnt normal behaviour? What steps to try next?

By the way, I went into detail with the encoding. Max B-Frames = 1, optimised for web streaming - everything noted in the documentation. Container is mp4.

Are you using the BrightWall sync, Enhanced Synchronization or the legacy SYNC command without the Enhanced option?  Sync Options Here.  The BrightWall sync stays within a few milliseconds while the SYNC command can go up to 1.5frames off.  Reference link.

Secondly, it may not be your players, it could be your network.  What is the LAN cable type you are using between the two devices, CAT6A?  CAT5e?  It should say on the sleeve of the network cable.  How fast is the network switch?  How far apart are the devices from each other?  How long is the network cable run?  What other network traffic is on the same network?  Can you make a dedicated VLAN for just the signage to help separate it from the rest of the network?

Several of these things can add latency into the mix.

Note - WIFI with SYNC commands is unreliable and pretty much not supported because of the latency it adds.

Lastly, check your content to make sure it loops seamlessly.  Sometimes on output there can be an additional frame added to the loop that makes it look like it freezes on the last frame before the transition.

Hope that helps!  Let us know what you discover.

    Cheers,
    Monica

Hi Monica,  thanks for the reply.

I believe it is Enhanced Synchronisation by enabling leader / follower in the presentation > interactive > network tab. And using synchronise events with unique keywords that trigger the transition to the next video. Sounds like brightwall synch is the better solution?

I tried linking the players directly via network cable and bypassing the network. But it does use an ethernet via a switch. I've tried on two different networks.

    The content does loop seemlessly.

Seems like the main problem however, is the pause at the end of the video. I use a copy of the original video (seperate file) so I can keep them in synch. Not sure if that matters as we tried a playlist as well using the same video file and I still get the pause when the loop is completed.
