I have tried and tried to do the above but to no avail. Is this a known issue? If so, how can I edit this? I am using the latest version of BA available. I get no error message, it just fails to work.

Alex What error message do you get and what BrightAuthor version do you use (Help > About BrightAuthor)?
Please right-click on the player > Info and tell the autorun version.

Mike Parkhouse Hi, I get no error message, I type into the specify hostname box, hit OK, then OK again, and the name just does not stick, and I am using the latest version available from your website (4.4.0.15). This is on a both XD232 players and 4K1142 players.
4K1142
autorun version (standard) 7.4.16
autorun version (custom) 7.4.0
XD232
autorun version (standard) 7.2.17
autorun version (custom) 7.2.0

Alex You can specify host name when you create setup files for the unit in BrightAuthor (Tools > Setup BrightSign Unit > Advanced Network Setup).
It's NOT possible to view/specify or change a host name remotely on the Manage tab (Status > right-click on the unit > Edit > Advanced Network Setup). This functionality will be available in future BrightAuthor/BrightSign Network upgrades.

Mike Parkhouse Okay, thanks for the response. Have you a timeline for this feature being available, or a feature request tool/portal I can add this to?

Mike Parkhouse Hi Alex, has this feature been added yet?

Alex No, feature request has been logged under # 18020, but still not implemented.
As a workaround, you can try using plugin to switch unit settings. See instructions below:
Setup Unit Again (use diagnostic web server)
- Create a new set of setup files and save to a folder on your computer.
- Add this autozip.brs (included) to the root folder with the setup files
- Zip up the contents of that setup folder into a file named autorun.zip. Empty folders will be skipped.
- Upload the autorun.zip to your sd card, delete the autorun.brs on the sd card, then click on the control tab, and hit reboot.
When the unit reboots it will unpack the autorun.zip to the sd card and execute the new config information.
Note: When you build the autorun.zip, the zip file should have just the published files inside. It shouldn't have a subfolder, that has the published files inside it. See attached autorun.zip image examples. Ignore setup plugin if you're not using the steps below to deploy the files to your BrightSign.

Publishing Setup Files with a BrightAuthor Project
You can use the same process above but instead of using step 4 to upload file, you can publish the autorun zip attached to a BrightAuthor project file.
New step 4:
- Attach autorun.zip to files tab in BrightAuthor project.
- Attach setup plugin to autorun file as a plugin ("setup" s the plugin name)
- Publish project to BrightSign unit over the network

When you’re changing hostnames in Bright Author, it really helps to use distinctive labels so you can track each device without mixing them up. I’ve noticed that things go much smoother when I assign quick placeholder names during testing, especially while experimenting with schedules or network settings. If you ever need a big list of unique names to pull from, I sometimes reference this generator because it saves time when setting up multiple players: https://1000names.com/random-names/
